Cell phone photography

When talking about model railroad photography, most people would rather think of high-end DLSR cameras than of cell phone cameras. The small picture sensor of cell phone cameras is usually considered a shortcoming.

A free weekend provided me with the opportunity to set up another photo scene with some of my 5ft equipment.

Back from the Leipzig hobby fair

I have just returned from the modell-hobby-spiel fair in Leipzig, Germany, which is one of the biggest annual hobby events in Central Europe. In the model railroad hall, one of my first spots to visit was the stand of US prototype TT scale manufacturer Lok-n-Roll. As usual, they present a nice TT scale US layout.

Model railroad layout on the Innotrans trade fair

Last Friday, I visited the Innotrans, which is one of the world's largest railroad trade fairs held every second year in Berlin, Germany. On the stand of yard operator RLC, which is a subsidiary of the HVLE Railroad, there was a small, pizza style H0 model railroad layout:

Exhibition piece revisited

Next week, I will visit the modell-hobby-spiel fair in Leipzig, Germany. It is a huge annual event on the Leipzig fairground covering all kinds of creative hobbies. An entire hall is dedicated to model railroading. Last year, I made a model railroad diorama, which was displayed in a showcase at the stand of a TT scale retailer specialized in US models. Since this year, I will be just a visitor, it's a good opportunity to revisit my exhibition piece from last year.

TT scale boxfile diorama

In the British small-layout scene, boxfile layouts are extremely popular. Outside the UK, this kind of small layouts is almost unknown. This might be due to the fact that the real boxfile seems to be a pure British product that is hardly sold outside the UK. However, since I like that concept very much, I was seaching for an alternative solution. I finally found it with the German made organizer boxes of the brand Semikolon. I took a rather small box of the size 33 cm x 25 cm (13" x 10"). For my needs, I modified the original boxfile concept.

Temporary dioramas

Like many model railroaders, I have always much more modeling ideas than I can put into practice due to limitations in time and space. An interesting solution is to make temporary dioramas by arranging models for photo shoots in a temporary scene. This provides also a good opportunity to test the appearance of a specific scene before making a permanent layout. All my temporary dioramas are in TT scale.
