Richlawn Railroad - "Gone, but not forgotten"

When referring to the Louisville & Nashville Railroad I often see the saying "Gone, but not forgotten"  And so it is with the Richlawn Railroad as today after three days of work all of the railroad has been removed and is piled out back of my house.  Next up will be removing the glass above the door and removing all of the lettering before securing it back in place, painting, and patching the floor.  Happy Labor Day!

MRH 120 day challenge - not going to make it

I won't be able to complete my mountain section by the deadline. Many of you know that we're trying to sell our home and move to Florida. We've had 39 showings, dropped the price twice (total $7,500), and had zero offers. Our "Phase 2" of or plan is comprised of two items: 1.) completely empty the unfinished part of the basement so that potential buyers won't see all of that junk and can better visualize the space (18 ft X 50ft); and 2.) clear and fence a 30f ft X 40 ft heavily wooded area in our back yard to make an area for pets.

MRH 120 Day Challenge - Post No. 04 Retention Pond Shoreline Detailing - Completed!

Work continues on the mountain section - specifically the retention pond.  It's amazing how much time this is taking! In my last post I had completed the water pour for the pond and here's what it looked like:

MRH 120 Day Challenge - Post No. 03 Retention Pond Paint & Pour

Work continues on the mountain section retention pond.  In an earlier post I scratch built an overflow pipe.  In this post I paint & pour the retention pond and add that pipe.

Doing Details - Retention Pond Overflow

As part of the 120 day challenge I'm trying to complete the mountain on my railroad.  The section that I'm working on has a retention pond and I remember a overflow pipe in a retention pond near my old home.  I don't have a picture of it; however, the image is still strong in my mind so I'll be modeling from my "mind's eye".

MRH 120 Day Challenge - Post No. 02 - Basic Ground Work

It doesn't look like much progress; however there is a fair amount of work to get to this point.  I installed pads for both the motel and cafe (using foam board), spackled the grades from the pads to the surrounding grade, created ditches by the road, and put a base coat of "dirt" junk paint over the entire area.

MRH 120 Day Challenge - Post No. 01 - In the beginning

I accepted the MRH challenge and plan on completing the mountain area on the Richlawn Railroad.  Here's what the area looks like today:  I do have some work completed on the foam base - the hillside, tunnel & the retention pond has been dug.

Here's what the area looks like with the section removed.

Got Pot?

No, not THAT kind of pot - I'm talking about a flower pot!  I was tired on working on Kevin's main structure  (http://kevinkreaganhouse.blogspot.com/ )  so now I'm going to work on details.  What better way to dress up Grandpa Sam's then with a few flowers.  I could buy those $$$$ HO scale flower pots with flowers included; however, I figured that I could do better.

Out of Limbo! Thank you Michael Rose!

Many of you that have been following my posts know that I went into "limbo" with my layout when we put our house up for sale.  I stopped all construction as it didn't make sense to me to work on a railroad that I would have to tear down IF our house sold.

Walk-around visit - video

Over the years I've posted a number of entries focused on individual projects on the Richlawn Railroad.  The good folks at MRH suggested that I share a little of the concept and history of the layout so I've created a 13 minute long video.  The style is sort of a walk-around visit just like if you came over to my home and I showed you around the layout.  The video is pretty much "produced as shot"; that is, there isn't any editing or background music (just like a real visit!).  I hope you enjoy your visit and thanks for watching!
