Making Trees
Mon, 2012-09-10 18:08 — tetters
I spent the evening trying out my skills at making some furnace filter trees. I've never done anything remotely like this either, so I approached it with some trepidation. I think they turned out okay for a first attempt. They will certainly find a home on my layout, that's for sure. I'm pretty confident that they will get better the more I make too. Goodness knows, modeling British Columbia on even a small layout like mine will more then likely require a couple hundred!
Let me know what you think.

Trees out furnace filters...make pines
You can make these trees look more like Appalachia pine trees by simply sprinkling static grass instead of ground foam.
Makes very realistic pine needles.

Pine Trees
I have wondered if a nice Southern Yellow pine tree could be made using a static grass applicator to sift on the "needles".
Anyone out there ever try it?
BTW, the trees as pictured above look decent though I'm not familiar with that type tree since I'm from the deep south, USA.

some un-pine early tree attempts
One of the guys in our free-mo group has been trying out some bulk scenic express tree material down at the workshop. No separate leaves added yet. So they are "western fall trees" for now.
For scale comparison, the track is HO. The "banded" sky seems to be due to the "unsmart" cell phone camera and the florescent lighting interacting.
