DCC - Electrical

Big thanks to the technical support department at ESU!

There are times when some companies just stand out and go the extra mile. ESU is one of them. I had reached out to Intermountain asking why my HO SD40-2 with factory installed DCC and sound didn't have a function for the ditch light to flash with the horn being blown. The leaflet enclosed didn't show any CV's related to lights, just sound and horn. The person told me they don't do that, but would have someone call me back to discuss this. This was on Tuesday. As of today they still haven't called me back (shame on them).

Mounting NCE's USB adapter

I have just set up a permanent test track near my desk/workbench. I can switch easily between my PowerCab and DC for testing purposes. I want to permanently mount my NCE USB adapter so I can use JMRI when programming without having to hook up a bunch of wires.

Does anyone know of a case or mounting gear for the NCE USB adapter? I'm thinking someone with a laser cutter or perhaps a 3D printed thing might be out there already.

Need help/advice please Re: Choice of locomotive control

Hi,

Just planning on getting back into the hobby after some years away and have about 10 or 12 locomotives kicking around ( Mostly older Athearn over 20 years old and none DCC. )

QSI Decoder Issues

To All,

Having a problem with a QSI Quantum Q1a decoder.  I'm unable to program any CV's or address its address with either my Digitrax Zephyr or my computer via JMRI Decoder Pro.

Can anyone suggest any ideas for reseting the decoder to factory settings.  If I can't do that I guess I'm wondering if anyone knows where I can get a replacement decoder that will work ... the loco is a Walthers Proto 2000 GP7.

Thanks for your help,

Steve

A.) what system will work with JMRI and some hardware supplies you may want.

B.) (13:30) what you need from your DCC system to connected to the computer.

C.) (16:05) connecting to a MAC

D.) (24:03) Connecting to a PC

ESU's LokProgrammer on Linux

Hi folks, does any of you have any success with ESU's Lokprogrammer (software + hardware) on Linux? I've seen a thread where the answer has a guy saying he can run it under Mac OS X using VMWare (https://beta.groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/loksound/conversations/messages...), and then there's a long thread in German, where one guy seems like he succeed at running the the software on Wine and write to the decoder by mapping the COM ports to Unix serial ports over USB. However, Google's translator is not great and some details are a bit confusing.

Today's disaster in model railroading

About six months ago I got a great deal on a Bowser C636 non sound locomotive.  I was disappointed when I opened her up and realized that an 8 pin decoder would not work on it.  Didn't want to spend 40+ dollars on an ESU decoder that the Bowser web page recommended.  So I decided to install an NCE DA-SR decoder in it.  Got it installed and it ran fine.  When I went to hook up the lights I ended up frying all the LEDs.  I also ended up frying the decoder.  So yesterday I went to the LHS and bought a new DA-SR decoder.
