Athearn moving to Loksound and LEDs!
I just noticed in the latest Athearn announcements, http://www.athearn.com/Articles/Hobbywire.aspx , that the new Genesis UP FEFs will feature Loksound decoders and LED lighting. I believe this is a first for Athearn, and I presume it's indicative of their future direction for all models. Made my day! Great decision on both counts Athearn!

Digital conversion of the Xo2 Railcar
Hi! :) I converted the beautiful Xo2 railcar from DELTA to FX digital (Motorola) adding a few more features at the same time. I made a video of the process (how-to). Enjoy! :)
DCC Decoder, Sound and Lights for an older Proto 2000 SD9?
Hi everyone,
I'm finally taking the dive into DCC with a Sprog One/Raspberry Pi 3/JMRI set up. I hope to install my first decoder with sound and new lights on my older Proto 2000 Great Northern SD9. (Not DCC friendly)
As for decoders I am looking for recommendations. The Tsunami 2 PNP seems like a good option, but the ESU Loksound decoders appear really nice as well. Both offer 567C Prime Mover sounds but neither have the RS3K horn, sigh... Anyways here is the recommended Tsunami set up.
Electrical Pickup Issue : Revisit Walthers 90 ft manual TT
I have read all the old forum posts on the Walthers 90 ft turntable but little was mentioned about electrical pickup issues. I purchased the 90 ft manual turntable and associated DC motor this Spring (2016). I recently assembled it and have no complaints about the turntable and it's assembly and operation. Motor is a little noisy but the TT runs very smoothly with 3 -1.5 volt batteries and a double pole center-off momentary switch. The problem I am having is keeping track power consistently on the brass bushings with the sheet brass arms in the kit.

Ten good reasons to use ESU Loksound
I have recently had a refreshingly wonderful customer experience with ESU Loksound and felt I should share it here in the form of a top ten list which I will place in the next few posts.

Reference materials for Arduino setup
I'm curious as to what books/reference guides/etc. folks would recommend as a way of easing one's self into working with the various Arduino products. I know there's an Arduino for Dummies book (I'm still looking for a Dummies for Dummies version...) but there may be better guides for helping the novice understand what he/she is getting into working with these little gems. I'm not worried about learning to program them but the electrical side is still somewhat of a black hole to me.

Wiring NCE EB-1 Circuit Breakers
I need help in a SIMPLE way to wire the EB-1 circuit breakers into my layout. I am using CVP system and currently have the layout split into 2 districts. I now want to split each district into 3 additional sub districts. I have the boards, looked at the instructions and am confused as how to wire them into the layout the instructions only show how to wire one board into the track, but what about the additional two.

LokSound Select Direct Decoder...
Hi guys,
I'm about ready to try out a couple of the LokSound Select Direct replacement decoders in our newly purchased Athearn RDG GP39-2's
I've chosen these over the TCS WOW Sound decoders as LokSound has the specific sound files for a GP39-2 that can be loaded, and they have the same new features as the WOW Sound with manual notching. In fact LokSound have all of the locomotive sound files for our entire roster too.

Richlawn RR gets a programming track
Initially I was going to use a track next to the fascia for programming; however, I put the track into use in the Klemptner Bros. salvage yard. I decided to make a portable programming track that I will keep under my layout when not in use. When I need to program I'll set it on my desk, hook up my SPROG 3, and use JRMI to do the programming.
So, what's with the color? I used the equipment yellow because: 1.) It's easy to see; and 2.) It the only color of spray paint that I had that I won't be using on other items.
DCC accessory decoders to control Fulgurex turnouts?
Hi,
A local large train club in my area transitioned from DC to DCC a few years ago. Now I'm adding JMRI automation control, wiring DCC block detection and DCC control of the turnouts.
Some of these turnouts are Fulgurex and I can't find reliable info on which kind of accessory decoders can drive these limited-switch slow motion motors.
