DCC - Electrical
DCC electronics cabinet?
All,
I'm building a cabinet to house my DCC electronics. I'm trying to decide if I need to put a door on the cabinet or leave it open in the front?
My basement is finished and climate controlled and there doesn't seem to be much dust, so I'm leaning toward leaving the front open with a fan on the inside to move air.
Any experience with this would be welcome. I'll post a picture when it's done; it's taking longer than I expected, as usual!
Thanks,
Lou Nigro
DCC "Throw-pack" : choice of Win10 host "brains"...
Dear MRHers,
Having found myself (unexpectedly) faced with a small fleet of DCC locos,
with a variety of decoders from the major US-manufs,
(and a couple of oddballs, not to mention any "visiting units" that need help)
I'm seriously considering building a custom DCC test/programming rescue toolbox ("throw-pack").
Digitrax Turnout Control(s)
As I was rummaging thru my storage trailer yesterday, I picked out an old control board I had picked up a couple of years ago.
It had two solid state boards on it that I sought to identify. According to the lettering printed on the boards, they are digital turnout controls.
Bus Wire / Feeder Wire Installation Considerations
Bus Wire / Feeder Wire Installation Considerations
As I worked on the LED lighting of my dbl-deck layout I began to formulate different ideas as to how I might incorporate my bus wires and their feeder wires. Quiet naturally they will need to be attached under the deck they are serving, ...and in my case those undersides are just plain plywood surfaces, free of any reinforcing cross-beams as that are cantilevered out from those 2” square steel beams attached to the walls of the shed.
Turnout Indicator
I am looking to use LED turnout indicators on my small layout. I also want to be able to power the frog. I have searched MRH and all over the internet and am suffering from wiring diagram overload. I think I have found what I am looking for on the Wiring For DCC website. there are two diagrams, one for a 2 lead LED and one for a 3 lead LED. The wiring is simpler for the 2 lead. Just to make it worse, I want to be able to run in DC and sometimes in DCC. Will the switch, resistors, diodes, and LEDs work exactly the same?
BLMA Searchlight Signals...
I needed to add another double head dwarf signal to the exit of Shippensburg Yard today and went hunting for a Tomar housing, instead I found a NJ International cantilevered signal bridge that I made up, but hadn’t used, along with some BLMA single head - searchlight signals.
Walthers Mainline Locos
Has any one notice if they set their walthers mainline locos speed to a over 70 mph they get a buzzing noise seems to come from the wheel gears or motor. I've noticed it on many walthers mainline locos. Probably why they gear them to run at 65 mph by default.
Wig Wag proof of concept before placing it on the layout.
Just a short video with all the working parts working together to make the wig wag work.
WM 304 old Life Like Proto 2000 FA2 DCC install
The following Blog will be my attempt at upgrading a Life Like Proto 2000 FA2 from DC to DCC. Got this off Ebay for a pretty good price. Didn't do my research before bidding and realized that it was an older version that is not DCC ready. So I will attempt to make it a DCC locomotive. Enjoy.
Constructive criticism is welcome.
