New plan and future for my Maclau River

As some of you know, I move to Canada in the coming days.

I left Europe for ever  an really with no regrets.

I have the chance  and the possibilities to bring my layout with me; thanks again dad to push me to build the layout in modules; this was 45  years ago !

This is probably the first layout build in Belgium which go through the Atlantic and will have the Golden Spike ceremony done in Canada.

He left Europe in the begining of september in a big container to reach Montreal a bit later.

Layout Section needs to raise to ceiling so bed can be used when needed

My son is off to college and has given his permission along with moms blessing to move my modeling bench into his room. There is room for a shelf layout along two walls over the modeling bench.  There is even more room over the bed if I can figure out a way to raise a layout section up to the ceiling.

Hocking Valley 3.0 - Trackplan for a new beginning

Well, we finally found the house. It'll take a couple weeks for all the formalities to finish up, but it'll probably go through. In the meantime, here's what I've got for a trackplan. Control will be Digitrax radio with a few UP5's scattered around for the yard crew and hostelers to use. The area across the road from the roundhouse will be the GE lightbulb plant in Logan. The black lines across the layout represent the section joints.

My first switching area !!!

I have started working on the layout again. I decided to post this to my blog because this is the start of what should end up looking pretty cool and being an area that provides A LOT of operation potential.

My creative side will simply not allow me to formalize a plan and follow it... I have an idea what I want but that is all.  The thrill of the hunt is the junk I find at trainshows and figuring out how I can clean it up and put it all back together again.

Anyone have experience with the new Atlas All-Scales Signaling System?

Anyone have any experience with the new Atlas Signaling System? I am planning on a small layout (4x8, 5x9, 4x8 with a 4x4 extension on one side). I'm not interested in ops-sessions. My aim is a computer-controlled system so at most 1-2 operators so I'm looking for something simple, a basic ABS system and don't want to put the time into a more elaborate system. I'm looking at either a Digitrax or NCE DCC system.

are all modular layouts strictly standard modules

i'm curious if all modular layouts are strictly composed of standard (interface) modules or if modules possibly used in a home layout might be arbitrary shaped/sized and connected with something other than a module?

I understand that there are standards (e.g. FREMO).  a conventional (FREMO) modular layout

Pokey 3.0 Trackplan & Operations

This blog will follow the progress of the new layout I'm planning. As with my former layout, this new layout will be a prototype freelanced layout based on the N&W Pocahontas District between Williamson, WV and Bluefield, WV. I appreciate your comments and suggestions, and look forward to having you accompany me on the journey.

the Continental / Trans-Continental Connector, Layout Theme

I happened back across this posting I made to another forum a few years ago. Thought I might repeat it in its own subject thread as it is still very much a guiding theme with my new layout plan.

I just like Model Trains,...of all sorts....the scale miniaturization.

I'm particularly fond of steam engines, and particularly the large ones. I'm a fan of C&O, B&O, NW, etc, etc.

And as a kid of course I had the ubiquitous Santa Fe diesel engine,...those famous worldwide recognizable colors.
