Scenery - Structures

Photo Backdrops

Photo Backdrops seem to more accessible lately and with Google street view the ability to create signature scenes looks very practical and affordable.

Neil Schofield, Scott Thornton, Joe Atkinson, Bill Brillinger, and Jim Six (among others) have all demonstrated that this is achievable and results in stunningly realistic and seamless transitions from the foreground scenery.

Baltimore Wharf Area, Municipal Piers, Docksider Locos

I have an image in my mind that I think was saved from an old image I recall seeing long ago. It is (was) of a cobblestone street running along the waterfront of old town Baltimore. The tracks were embedded in the cobblstone, and they serviced several warehouses that jutted out into the water along the waterfront. One or so of those 'warehouses' resembled the Walthers Municipal Pier kit.

Those infamous B&O docksiders locos could be found working these wharf side tracks.

Scratchbuild of my old church roots.

This old church is where I spent many Sundays in my youth. I photographed it on 4x5 film almost 35 years ago and decided to build this model of it from the photograph you see. This is by far my most enjoyable part of the hobby, Merry Christmas and happy railroading.

Walthers Municipal Pier Terminal (fantastic modeling job)

Yesterday I was looking thru the internet for images of this Walther's Pier kit, and in particular any that might include a cut down version.

I ran across some AMAZING images that are interspersed thru out this very long subject thread,...sorry that they are on another forum, but they truly deserve a look by anyone interested in port side scenes.

Here is just one example,... (there are many more)

Prototype Photographs 2020

Hi All,

Went to see some trains today with my camera.  Found a couple scenes that you might enjoy looking at.

In the spirit of the holidays I'd like to share them with You.

Hope the ensuing year is Happy, Healthful and Prosperous for you.

I’m looking forward to see your prototype photos too again this year.

Source for Vallejo Texture Paints

My first post here on MRH. Hope it is in the right place...

Been reading a few articles and watching a few videos lately and have encountered a couple mentions of Vallejo Texture Paints. I am interested in trying these but am having trouble finding them.

I can find a couple at Micro-Mark, a couple others at Amazon, some singles in other places. Seems odd that no one stocks a selection.

wood shingle application

I've built several wood structure kits with simulated wood shingles. I've been using peel-off pre-stick-on shingles with some success, but with some difficulty. They tend to stick up/not adhere/not even...etc. Any ideas/tips as to how to apply these items with more success?

Wood Freight Dock Coloring

This is part of a freight dock from a Campbell kit. I went with the wood dock included in the kit instead of coming up with a more modern cement dock.

Started out with a color that I hoped would be similar to red seen on wood decks these days. That turned out to be a variation of orange. Added some basic brown dry brushed some flat black and then the same with a light grey.
