How many freight cars are on your model railroad?
Hey guys,
Just sent an email to my Allagash operating crew after yesterday's session and thought I'd just copy it here. Wondering how many of you know how many freight cars are actually on your railroad or in "inventory."
To be honest I didn't know, and the numbers took me by surprise. Geez!
Masking windows; novice needs help
I want to get this model out of the case and mask the windows in order to weather it and seal it.
I've cut simple square pieces of masking tape in the past, but not ones with curves and hard to get at like the windows of the doors.
Any links, ideas, and techniques would be much appreciated.
Whole layout paint scheme : modelling "Kodachrome"?
Dear MRHers,
Was musing to myself about the history of proto RR photography, and the early colour-photo era. The use of "Kodachrome" film brought a very definite colour reproduction and impression to many railfans, and by-extension to modellers.
Knowing as we do that Kodachrome had a distinct "look" (whether that was accurate when compared to a Mk1 eyeball of a human standing trackside is an acknowledged variable),

GE Silverliner IV - help!
Hi all - Just throwing this out there in the hope someone can help.
I'm waiting on a couple of Island Model Works Silverliner IV kits, really looking forward to starting on what promises to be a great little project. Should keep me going until Christmas...
Does anyone have, or know where I can get, a good quality overhead prototype photo of the Silverliner IV pantograph setup? I've pretty much exhausted Google images with no luck, for the first time ever.
Athearn GP-9 bodies on a Proto 2000 Gp-9 chassis
Since I know mechanically the Athearn BB and proto 2000 are similar, my question is can bodies of the Athearn BB GP-9 fit on the Proto 2000 GP-7/9 chassis?? I'm asking because I have a couple of detailed and custom painted BB GP-9 bodies on unpowered chassis...and a few brand new Proto 2000 GP-7 and 9s.
Decal question - how to apply lettering over boxcar ribs?
Hey, everybody. I have a Roundhouse FMC boxcar kit that I plan to strip and re-paint for the Savannah State Docks RR (Georgia Ports Authority). A prototype photo is here.
Narrow gauge modelling using OO/HO track (16.5 mm gauge).
Hi all,
Previously in https://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/34608?page=5#new
Dave B asked
For those who might be considering a narrow gauge layout based on HO gauge track what are the pros and cons of 1/55 scale 3 foot ,1/64 3.5 ft ,and 1/72 3.9 ft modeling? I guess one could add 1/36 scale 2 foot gauge to the possibilities?....
Transfer Cabooses (Cabeese)
I've long been a fan of transfer cabooses. Somewhere in my files I have LOTS of pics of this big variety of cars. And I have a number of them as well as kits for them, as well as flat cars, and other cars that might be kit-bashed into them.
So it was with an admiring eye that I spotted this one at a train show this weekend. Had to have it, whether it was prototypical or not.
