Train 54, Where Are You?

Mile Posts on the prototype railroads serve many important purposes. On model railroads they can serve equally important jobs if installed carefully.

Of these jobs, mile posts can tell a train crews where they are and help them determine how fast they're going.

COMPUTER BACK UP A MUST

Went cruising last week on Disney Magic out of Galveston, the grain elevator and RR tracks are right alongside of ship terminal and I parked my car at Galveston NHRS Museum so that makes this a RR story.

Got home plugged in Computer, NO START, knew that the way it was acting that probably power supply. Monday got it fixed.

While waiting set up laptop and had it set up with backup hard drives to continue on. I downloaded current version of JMRI and restored was ready for big op session on this weekend.

GET A LARGE BACK UP DRIVE AND USE IT. IT IS CALLED PEACE OF MIND.

Richlawn Railroad V2: Room Lighting - a one-handed paper hanger?

This first thing I wanted to do in my new layout / office room is to install good lighting.  After a bit of research I decided on using track lighting because of the flexibility in aiming the lights.  I received all of my track lighting items a few days ago and was faced with a problem: how to install this by myself?  I felt much like a "one-handed paper hanger"!

Extreme diesel weathering ...

Hello everyone.

Hope you enjoy the following images. Hopefully the color looks right as I seem to have an issue with color profile on my end. Let me know how they look on your monitors if you don't mind. This is a sneak peak of some of the Allagash diesel roster, which has recently been weathered. I was really getting tired of looking at a roster of clean locos. it was time to get 'em dirty! I've also included a couple of pics of Atlantic Great Eastern (AGE) Alco RS11s as well. The AGE interchanges with the AGR and we have a run-through agreement.

Bummer, or not ...

just received a drill set via the mail, and thought I missed a bit. That was until I made a photo of the set:

Guess it's time to get a new pair of reading glasses !

cheers, Leo

Cracked gears

I know many of us have had or are having this problem. Cracked gears on your axles. I'm hoping to come up with a fix that is easy to do for those that don't have a lathe or access to one.

Repairing an Kato HM-7 Motor

Back in January I bought 5 RS-3's from Mike R on the Diesel List. Two of the engines have split gears on the axles that I'm going to fix. Mike told me about them before purchasing them. Since I like to tinker with stuff like this to see if I can fix it he felt bad and through in a motor that was making a noise. He said since I like to tinker maybe I could figure out what is wrong with the motor.

A-Track - Your DCC Buddy for NCE Systems – Start-Up Guide

A few queries, from new users who have downloaded and installed A-Track, revealed that my ‘Getting Started’ Tutorial and User Guide are not yet quite good enough – they might explain WHAT the A-Track application can do but, unfortunately, they don’t tell you HOW to start using the program. Hence this little guide (which will be incorporated in the next update to A-Track).
