Tools, tips and tricks

How and where to sell used equipment?

Time and health has caught up with me, three surgeries this year, so it's time to pack it up.

Using Rapido's RailCrew switch machines

I am familiar with standard solenoid switch machines (like Atlas) and stall-motor machines (like Tortoise) and have used both.  The RailCrew machine appears to be a solenoid device but the documentation shows what looks like a dpdt toggle switch that does not use all of the contacts.  I am missing something here...

TOOL MOD

A few years ago I bought a combo belt and disc sander. The belt has been very useful the disc not so much. The RPM was just to much for the disc to be usable for my needs.  I found a hand crack disc sander however was a bit to pricey for me, not that i mind spend money for quality tools. Here is the solution I came up with for a mere $40 and a few hours of fabrication.

3D printing

I want to thank everyone who has shared their experiences with 3D printing. After carefully reading everyone’s posts, I have jumped into the deep end with both feet. I now keep asking myself why I waited so long! I have made some simple items like barrels, pallets, roof fans and now I am creating some people. Yes, my head is spinning with the possibilities.

12’ x 2’ HO Switching Layout

Just finished laying track on my 12’ x 2’ switching layout and getting ready to wire, weather and ballast the track.  Had to add an 8” section of track to cross the joint of the two 6’ modules and move the switch further forward.  Atlas #6 turnouts used for the entire layout.  I also decided to stretch the top industry track to the end on both sides of the modules.  I used two window latches to join the two sections, which worked out better than expected.  It will be part of a larger layout in the future.

Track Laying Tool?

Looking for the name and description of that 'wheeled type' tool that would mark the centerlines of track onto the subroadbed of plywood thru the paper pattern lying on the plywood.

I have most of my track plans drawn out full scale onto brown 'construction paper', and now I wish to start laying track onto the plywood deck, but can't leave the paper pattern under the track.

Micro Mark Truck Tuner in HO

My trusty Truck tuner has gone MIA so I ordered another that came in today.  It looks different than the old one but as long as it works right.  It was tight getting it in there so I thought the truck really needed to be turned.  Went to do the other half of the same truck and SNAP went the truck.  I knew it was tight but the truck shouldn't have broke.  Grabbed another one of a different brand and the exact same thing happened!   I put the tuner next to a wheel set and the tuner is noticeably  longer.  So, does this look right?

3D printing software Zbrush

I have decided to jump into the 3D printing world. I have purchased a printer and will be using Zbrush CAD software. I am wondering if anyone here also uses Zbrush software and what you might have created.

Thanks,

Woodland Scenics Segemnts by Miles....

Recently I was catching up on all my TMTV segments, and it here was one by Miles, I Believe, where he was explaining Woodland Scenics Just Light system to someone, and he talked about getting some extra female plugs from Pololu to make our own Expansion adding our own lights already installed o our Layouts.  I can’t remember the Part number he stated, nor can I remember the episode he was in.  Thought I had added it to my favorites, but alas did not.

Can anyone refer me to the season and/episode that was?

Thanks Much,
