Prototype information

CSX Manual

Found this searching for something else.  Nice of CSX (and I assume other road names) to post detailed prototype information.  Apparently there are state specific requirements on clearances.

IAIS's West End - Drone view of my prototype

Rob Koppert, a railfan in Atlantic, Iowa, posted the drone footage below of some weekend IAIS action at Atlantic.  While it's 10 years past the date I model, I really got a kick out of seeing my prototype from this vantage point, and thought others might enjoy it as well.  Rob wrote, "I was playing with my new toy on Saturday and shot the Atlantic Rover and CBBI-7 from a different vantage point than normal.  I'm using a DJI Phantom 2 Vision Plus quadcopter for some videography and this was the first and second flights."

The legality of taking pictures or videos from a moving train.

It was snowy, the train was late and once aboard, I started shooting scenery.  The conductor stopped me from filming as he stated that it was illegal.  I complied and asked him if it was a Federal, State or Local law that would prevent me from shooting scenery - to which he replied: its against the law.

Marion 4160 Shovel is coming to life

The work on my Marion 4160 shovel is continuing. I settled on an interior, for which I have no idea what should be inside. I put a drum and other "stuff" for looks. Stuck a operator at the controls and glued the roof on.

This shot gives a look at the inside. Here I was gluing the main roof section on.

Winter Blahs

I was in Barrie on the weekend visiting the in-laws and as we drove over a BCRY crossing, I saw something troubling...the right of way was completely buried in pristine, untouched whiteness and the snowbanks lining either side of the crossing showed no signs of being disturbed.   My guess is that there has been no activity on the line for at least three weeks.

How many kinds of RS3ms are there?

Anyone know how many kinds of RS3ms there are/were? (Send in pictures of every last kind of RS3m you can find!!!) Also, how many are left, and where are they? Sadly Cape Cod Central scrapped 1201 roughly 2 months after I visited the cape for the first time. I took the train that year, and saw 1201 out the window. Then, about 3 years later, I saw this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=olZQ2gRjbl0
