Can anyone shed some light on Locomotive Lighting
I love technology and I love the ability to do magical things with DCC such as sound and lighting. However, as someone modelling HO CSX but not being American, I am finding it difficult to get clarity on which lights and which configurations I should be aiming for. Even more confusing is that certain model manufacturers produce locos with non functioning lights that are painted on but not necessarily correct for the model.
Custom RS18u
Has anyone out there ever done a RS18u in any road name I'm starting a cp rail PAC man scheme so far I have worked on the under frame but want to start the shell this weekend should be an interesting one just wanted to see others work.
CN and CP Manitouwadge subdivisions - railroads you can model
When I was 14 or 15, I met my friends, or shall I say mentors, Bob and Peter Winterton who both model the CPR North of Lake Superior in Ontario. Their history lessons, modeling expertise and general knowledge inspired me to model the junction of branch lines of the CPR and CNR in Manitouwadge, ON, Canada North East of Thunder Bay, ON about 32 km's North of the Trans Canada Highway North of Superior. Both of which raced to be the first to service the Noranda Geco and Willroy Mines North of Manitouwadge.
A Plausible History
The Steamboat METALINE navigates the nearly impassable rapids at Box Canyon near Ione Washington. This photo was captured circa the 1890s. Soon, the railroad would arrive, making such a dangerous journey unnecessary.
Although I am creating a freelanced railroad and I am thoroughly enjoying the freedom and the lack of constraints that freelancing offers, I wanted to evoke that sense of historic authenticity usually reserved the prototype modelers.
L&N Historical Society convention
Is any one else going to Oak Ridge, TN this weekend?
A prototype for everything.
It. Is surely the only one of its kind, but it exists nonetheless. On the Discover Live Steam website, there is listed for sale a standard gauge 56.5" steam speeder. Approximately the size of a Fairmont speeder, it has an oil-fired vertical boiler and a two-cylinder vertical steam engine. For a mere $95,000 it can grace a set-off near you.

Small railroad prototype
Because the subject of small layouts is recycled so often, here's an example I ran across today:
