Richlawn RR - Palmer Structure Smokestack
My next step in working on the Palmer structure is the smoke stack. It is the most distinctive feature of the building and will be a bit of a challenge. Here's how it looks from a distance:
Richlawn Railroad - Shapeways 3d Printed Street Lights
A big thank you to barr-ceo and his work on creating the street lights for printing by Shapeways. [See http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/22162 ]. I ordered a set in HO scale and they arrived today. I had also ordered the 3mm LEDs for lighting the lamps. This thread will document my experience with these items.
Richlawn RR V2 - Converting to LED layout lighting
Many of you have been following the various threads here on MRH about using LEDs to light your layout. I've become a believer of using LEDs after seeing Michael Rose's layout and seeing how great they look (to me) in person. ( http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/20664 ).
Richlawn RR V2 - Tam Valley "Train Shuttle" test with my Doodlebug
I'm getting ready to wire my doodlebug track and have been cleaning out under the layout to allow for access. I wanted to test the system before doing the permanent wiring, so I used some temporary wiring to try out my Tam Valley "Train Shuttle" control. I made the necessary cuts in the track, hooked it up, and made a crude video. I'm happy with the way it works; however, the doodlebug doesn't stop in the same place at the middle point in Hoovertown coming from either direction. This isn't a huge problem as it will still stop in the proximit
Richlawn RR V2 - Landscaping around the Palmer Building *UPDATED 1-22-15
**UPDATE 1-22-15: I finished the ditch behind Palmer by adding bushes, static grass, and cat tails from Walthers. You can see the picture near the end of this thread.
*UPDATE 12-29-14: I've added more foliage to the ditch area. See my most recent post later in this thread.
Richlawn RR V2 - Hoovertown Construction
Many of you that have followed my Richlawn Railroad will probably remember my Hoovertown downtown area on my previous layout. Here's a few pictures of it before the layout was torn down:
Richlawn RR V2 - Palmer structure interior / office
When the overhead door is open on the Palmer building the interior will be revealed so I added some detail to make the view more pleasing. This is a work in process but I wanted to share what I've done thus far.
Here's the view from a distance:
Richlawn RR V2 - Palmer Kitbash Structure overhead door animation - UPDATED 10/1/14
*** UPDATED 10-1-14 ****
I've added a picture near the end of this thread showing the progress on the building.
O.K. - I know it's jerky, but at least the door opens and closes on my Palmer structure using animation. I've used the servo and controller from Tam Valley to provide the motion. I like the unit because it allows me to set the end points of movement and also the speed of the movement. I've got more work to do on the project but wanted to show what I've got so far.
