The Penn Western RR

The MRH website pretty much exists to support the on-line magazine and as such does an excellent job. However, I got to thinking as I read my downloaded copy of MRH. I've been trying to come up with some ideas for articles that could be submitted to the magazine. One idea is the proverbial layout tour article. They are the easiest to write and the readers always seem to like them. I know I do.

Sometimes videos can change the plans

After watching the first two of Joe's videos I have come to conclusion that a traditional double deck layout while functional would potentially waste a bit of an opportunity of building something a bit better.  I have expanded the size of my working area slightly (about 2 1/2 feet) and started laying out a mushroom configuration.  The extra space is necessary to ensure a 30-36 inch walkway on each level.  Here are new diagrams for lower/upper showing what I am working with:

The Diamond River Valley Railway Co.

The Diamond River Valley Railway Co. founded in 1964 as a subsiduary of the Santa Fe Railway Co exists to serve the trackage that was demoted to branch line status after the Santa Fe completed the Holliday Tunnel. The tunnel was built to assist the railroad with navigation through the mountains and to speed up its service between the east coast and the Midwest.

Looking for some certain date timetables

I have been an avid railroad timetable collector for quite a few years. In those years, I have been stumped trying to find a few "date specific" timetables for my collection. I am looking for some help from someone out there who may be able to help in my search. I am looking for any railroad timetable (or Rule Book) that may have went "into effect" on the day my 2 kids were born,

I am looking for timetables dated 7/28/1997 or 7/1997 and 2/17/2004 or 2/2004.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Brooklyn N-Trak photos

I ran across some photos I tokk on my N-Trak clubs layout before it was dismantled and put into storage last February. Most of the photos are of my traisn but there are other trains here as well. Here are the photos:

The Hudson and Hartford, the Saga Continues...

I took some new photos that illustrate how I am completing the benchwork using Woodland Scenics' Mod-U-Rail system.

This photo shows the wing nut and bolt that are used to attach the different modules together. You'll also note that holes are cut in the bottom 1/2" sheet of extruded foam to allow access to the nut and bolt from underneath each section. You'll a;so note that these holes are walled off so that the nut and bolt do not get lost inside the tables.

Scratch Building The Ridgway Roundhouse and Turntable for MY Rio Grande Southern RR

Hello again MRH readers its October 4th 2009.

For the past 6 months I have searched for a High Quality Craftsman Model of the Ridgway Roundhouse for my Rio Grande Southern Railroad and have been unsuccessful! what I do have are Exact scale Drawings of most of every structure on the Rio Grande Southern so I decided it's scratch building time.

So far I have laid out the base of the 7 stall roundhouse and the three brick walls on the ends. Now you ask why are there three ends?
