Stafford Mills on the Southern New England Railway

I've been working on detailed planning for the Stafford Mills section of my Southern New England. Stafford Mills is based to a great extent on Montville, Connecticut on the CV.

Here's the draft track plan:

Here's a prototype map of Montville I drew to give you an idea of how the inspiration for Stafford Mills looked:

Engine is a  Alco RSD 15 from Life Like with QSI sound.

 I've no video camera. It's only a Canon PowerShot A 640.

High definition video - coming like the proverbial freight train!

Another totally nostalgic trip from 2008 - these HD cams were superseded quickly, and now any smart phone is better. - Jeff Shultz, MRH Admin

In case you haven't noticed, we're on the edge of an amazing high definition video boom that has the potential to completely transform how content is presented on the internet!

A Trip to Vermont

This weekend my wife's sister took our one year old for the day (!!!) freeing me and Deb to head up to Vermont. I wanted to take some research photos and my wife wanted to hit the King Arthur Flour shop.

My trip to Vermont included some stops of interest to model railroaders. At an antique mall called

Queechee Gorge Village

A little progress on my layout..

I have finally raised the level of my water base in an attempt to mitigate what I felt was excessive height of my causeway and excessive distance between my bridge and the river. I think it helped. Below are some pics of the scene as well as a casting I made of a Chooch bridge abutment that has been cut down a bit in height.

Best laid plans

If you've been following my blog, then you know I have been discussing doing structures for the Roseburg yard area on my layout.

As I got to looking at the yard area with the idea of adding structures, I realized there are other areas of Roseburg on the layout that need work, namely the backdrop and the yard tracks themselves.

Rebirth of the Southern New England Railway

With the N scale book, and associated layout, just about done (I have lots of photos to "tag" with captions, and a few more pretty pictures to take, but the thing is fundamentally complete at this point) it's time to turn my attention to my HO scale Southern New England, which has been pretty dormant since we moved to the DC area from Colorado going on four years ago.
