Sad news today from several sources close to him, that renowned Australian modeler Geoff Nott has passed away. Truly one of the great masters of model scenery. His beautiful Leigh Creek Lumber Company layout (GMR 2000) and Muskrat Ramble layout which is now on display at the Suncoast Center for Fine Scale Modeling, in Odessa, FL. has been a source of inspiration for me and countless others. His fine work will be missed. Condolences to all who knew him personally.

Very sad news
I have a few Facebook friends who live in OZ, and they passed the news to me the other day that he lost his battle with cancer.
He was a unique artist who enjoyed sharing his talent.

Sad indeed
Not knowing the name I turned to Google. It returned this: http://www.nmra.org.au/Layout_Tours/Geoff_Nott/index.html
Breathtaking modeling. The hobby has lost a truly skilled artist. So sad.

Leigh Creek
Dear David,
Yes, the Aussie NG modelling community are in a state of shock right now...
"Leigh Creek Lumber" had a number of iterations. The layout you saw in GMR was Geoff's home layout. Primarily HO with some HOn3. This layout was dismantled around the time "Red-Stag" was concieved (space requirements for the RS build, and the heft of the RS On3 equipment made such an impression on Geoff that he decided the home layout needed to "upscale").
Having gotten into building "bush boxes" (run-thru diorama type displays) around the time of "Red Stag", there were a number of On3 boxes which were strung together in various combinations for shows under the name "Leigh Creek".
Later, between "Red Stag" and "Muskrat Ramble", Geoff built a 4-section HO logging show layout featuring 5-train-operation which also carried the "Leigh Creek" name. This layout made use of some bridges and structures, and most of it's train consists saved from the dismantled home layout.
Geoff was a humble modeller, a mentor and friend, and a bloke who just wanted to encourage others as much as he could.
Happy Modelling,
RIP Geoff

Thank you for the info. I actually didn't see the GMR article, but I saw plenty of photos and online articles about his modeling. How large was his original home layout? It sounds like Geoff was a really neat man. His modeling is great, but it seems like he had great character. Those are the best types of modelers in opinion! Thanks once again.
