Couplers on LLike C-Liners

On my LifeLike FM C-Liner A and B units I am using Micro Trains #1015 couplers which work very well. The space between the units seems too large to me. Does anyone know a way this distance can be shortened. The coupler assy cannot be moved inboard as there is little space between it and the trucks. The only way I can see to do it is to find a coupler with a shorter shank. The distance between the center of the mounting hole to the pulling face on the M/T 1015 appears to be .296 inches so if anyone knows of a shorter one  using the same mounting box, or just a coupler that will fit that box, I would like to hear about it. Any other suggestions to fix this problem would be apreciated.

I think you've already got the short shank...

According to the Micro-Trains price list (http://www.micro-trains.com/pl-NCouplers.php) the 1015 is the short shank version at .312". The 1016 is the medium shank version (and would apparently require shimming) at .375".

The Micro-Trains Conversion Chart can be found at: http://www.micro-trains.com/conversions/sheet008.pdf

As for making it look shorter - perhaps adding diaphragms between the locomotives would help?
