Scaletrains ES44 not starting motion until speed step 2
Hello all,
Got a DCC ready Scaletrains ES44 a little while back and just installed Loksound V5 in it. Works like a charm with one exception. The locomotive actually starts moving at speed step 2, not 1 like it should. I have a Scaletrains ET44 that had DCC factory installed, it starts to crawl at speed step 1 like it should. I know this is just a CV tweak but need advice on which CV to change and what to change it to. Thanks in advance!
Detection, Ardunio and JMRI/CMRI
So, I posted awhile ago about my quest to begin signaling and detection on my current 12x24' Phase 1 Yard and mainline part of my railroad. I decided to go with a Arduino set-up and couple it into JMRI/CMRI and make the entire thing 1 big dispatched piece. I thought it would be easier at this stage doing this versus trying to build the entire road then coming back. I've been working on detection, and have it a bit of a road block.
Improving Athearn RTR Loco Electrical Pick Up
I picked up a new/old-stock Athearn RTR SD40T-2 a few years back and only just now got around to installing a RailPro LM-3S receiver into it. Let me back up a bit and state that the loco ran just fine on straight DC-only power. Fast-forward to today: AFTER installing the RailPro receiver and soldering any/all connections in the loco, it ran incredibly erratic! It would run a bit, stop, start, run, stop, start, yadda, yadda. When standing still and just touching one of the trucks, it would lose power.
Setting Up CV Lighting Effect Inquiry
Hi,
Wondering if someone can help me out. My apologies for the long note but want you to know where this is coming from. I’m new to installing DCC decoders and setting up CVs. The gentleman who installed and setup my decoders for years has retired so I’m learning as I go. I used to tell him what I wanted and it would be done.
LokSound Throttle Movement Delay
I have several LokSound equipped locomotives and by default there is about a 2 second delay before the model moves when you advance the throttle. I know that by changed the value in CV124, you can completely remove that delay, but I'd like to know if there is some secret setting(s) that would allow you to reduce the movement delay to say 1 or 1 1/2 seconds? I searched the 'net far and wide and can't find anything in regard to this.
A Tale of Two Wires
Y'all probably know this, but I hadn't thought of this before. Maybe it will help some new folks.
Copper wire is expensive. But there is an alternative, CCA, or Copper Clad Aluminum, that is significantly cheaper. On Amazon I found a 10 color set of 25' spools of 14 gauge stranded copper wire for $116, or 46 cents/foot. I also found a 10 color set of 100' spools of 14 gauge stranded CCA wire for $53, or 5 cents/foot.
Atlas snap relays with Dick Bronson's Tower Controller Mark II
Hello everybody, back with another question. So the large layout I work on inFayetteville, I post updates every now and then, has gotten to the point with rewiring that I am starting to plan out the signal system Electronics needed in detail. I've already decided to go with Dick Bronson's components but Nolan - the layout owner - has given me the condition that we have to use up his massive stockpile of Atlas switch control boxes and switch machines.
8 ver 21
i do not know why but looking at another couple power units, (like i need any more). and they are only on sale as dcc ready, ? might cost less to buy ready made dcc and sound,
but my question is the factory kato has only a 8 pin not the 21 pin. is this even worth it? or just wait till i find in dcc with sound? what is the difference other than the number of pins?
brand is not that important, but a couple brands i will not even think about buying, no matter how good the deal might look.
Updated question regarding my previous inquiry about my staging tracks....
My original question was about routing and powering on/off tracks in my staging area. The schematic is below.
As I noted yesterday, I received many very useful responses. Again, thanks to all...
Since that posting....
Helix track work
Hi everyone, i need some advice on track work for my helix. I decided to build a nice helix that will be 5 1/2 tiers to get trains from the lower level to the top level, it also provides a turn around at the bottom level. My helix radius is 36 inches I have everything figured out and several tiers build and completed with cork laid. My tiers are built on a bench, where cork, wiring, track will be assembled and then taken into the layout room and will be put on one level at a time. Everything is going great but i have one question about laying th
