Scenery - Structures
Seeing trees for the forest
Since I am intending these trees for my FreemoN module, I think that they should all be of the "foreground" quality. I also intend on modeling at least one section of the module to include a woodsy hill. The edges of the module will "slice" through the woods and spectators will be able to see a fully modeled understory. At least that is what I am planning, reality and my skills my have other things in store for me.
Milestones
Not quiet as aspected but "just in time", I reached my self-defined goal yesterday by completing the steel-girder bridge which I build using ME Girder-Bridge Kits. It rests on plaster abutments for which I scratch built casting molds.
Posting up Posters
Included this in my Free-moN module construction thread, but thought I'd post it here for the archives and to see how others do it:
Union Pacific bent rail coaling tower
Anyone out there familiar with UP's bent rail coaling tower? I am in the process of building one in N scale. Just wondered if anyone else has modeled this.
First diorama complete on the UNPR
After eight months on my newbie layout a feeling of achievement in finally completing one small section. The pictures below show my sawmill on a spur track. The building has lights, the water wheel turns and the saw blade in the mill operates. The ridge on the left needs a few more trees but the mill and siding are complete. Yeeha
Trial and error
As I get farther along with my modular project, I get a bit overwhelmed as to how much I need to learn and experience. Since I switched to N scale several years ago, even though I got trackwork completed on a layout, I haven't done any scenery or structure building. All my (limited) experience in those area were from my earliest days doing HO. Time to flex the mental muscles and get my head thinking smaller!
2013 Goals for your Railroad Modeling?
In December 2011 Rick Wade started a thread on goals for 2012. http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/6579
I thought it would be interesting to review my goals and see what I accomplished toward those goals. And also look at what I had done that wasn't included in my goals.
Grassmaster clumping grass problem
Happy New Year. I have been using the Grass master for a couple of years. Have a problem with 4 & 6 mm grass clumping in the hopper, and not coming out that easily. After putting down the glue and attaching the nail, I have to really tap a lot on the hopper for the grass to come out. Inside the hopper the grass conforms to the hopper shape, and also little balls of grass. I'm using Silfor. I do not have this problem with 2mm. That comes out like it should.
Any help would be welcomed
Thanks in advanced
Mike
