Locos - Rolling stock (general)

OK Engines brand metal passenger cars

Is anyone familiar with OK Engines brand Metal Passenger cars? I seen them advertised in RMC and was wondering how detailed they are.

Passenger car lighting

I am lighting a 1910 style observation car. For the main interior lights, I am using the Minitronics modlel # 100-ICL-01 HO Scale Interior car lighting. The capasitor makes the LEDs have consistent light with no flickering. So far so good. But now add a drum light, side marker lights, and a porch light on the rear deck - all LEDs, all with their own resistors pre-wired in, but no capacitor

Does anyone know where I can find what capacitor I need (I don't even know capacitor nomenclature), where to find/buy it and how to wire it?

Body mounted metal airhoses

There are lots of ways to simulate air hoses on freight cars. Kadee coupler trip pins are the most common and work fine in N scale ,especially if one trims them a bit shorter and bends them to look connected when coupled in a train. Lots of HO operators use the Kadee "air hoses" too but others will cut the trip pins off and install body mounted air hoses.

Shorty Cars

I was wondering if anyone had every thought of creating (shorty freight cars) either for specialty uses or just for the fun. I'm thinking about maybe making one and wanted to know if anyone has made some and what is required to do so.

Can gear oil "go bad"

I've been in the (agonizingly slow) process of "reactivating" in the hobby over the last several months.  I set up a sectional track Inglenook on my kitchen table last week, and while everything ran pretty well, I figure I should probably give my locos a good clean and lube before using them more regularly.  In the box of stuff I pulled out of storage is a bottle of gear oil (A-West Turbo Oil, in case anyone is familiar with the product).  It was stored in a cool, dry, dark place, but is at least 10, possibly 15 years old.

worn off paint in ore cars

I was messing around with Vallejo steel airbrush paint a few days back and thought I would try to fix something that always bugs me: hopper cars with painted interiors, particularly ore cars and ballast cars. Pretty much as soon as they are loaded for the first time the paint is gone from the interior of these cars.

Freight Cars - Reporting Marks Mix

Hello,

My question is do the rolling stock usually follow the locomotive's railroad line (ie: CSX loco with CSX box cars) or can there be a mix (ie: CSX loco with CSX, CN, Southern box cars)?  If so, would CSX have freight cars from rail lines out west, like BNSF, BN?  I'm not referring to leased freight cars, which I know would be in the mix.

Hopefully I made sense in my question.  Feel free to ask additional questions.

Thanks!
