My Past Meets the Present

In this video, among other things, my friend Corey (R's Trains) brought his perfect HO scale (Athearn) D&H 7303. This locomotive first got me interested in railroad history and prototype modelling several years ago as I watched it work in Plattsburgh. 7303 is now on a deadline, but her legacy still lives on...

IAIS's 4th Sub - Trackwork begins

Exactly 8 months after moving to our new home, I was finally able to start trackwork on the IAIS's 4th Sub, so I thought it might be time for a new post devoted to that topic. My plan is to cover each prototype scene in a bit more detail as I go for comparison to the corresponding portion of the layout.  Each layout scene is a track-for-track representation of the prototype, so the overall design was relatively easy as layouts go.

As a guide to help orient things as we go, here's the layout plan again:

My freelance NS and CSX railroad.

Welcome to the Schmidt Division of CSX and the Berry Division of NS in HO Scale.

The name of Schmidt for the CSX division is named after my late grandfather who worked for the railroad for 50 years. The name of Berry for the NS division is named after a close friend of mine who honestly got me back into train both model and prototypes.

Shane River & Northern (SR&N) Camas Prairie Division Railroad Runs Again.

Greetings

The first train is now running on the Shane River & Northern (SR&N) Camas Prairie Division Railroad.

This is my 6th HO Scale Layout, the first started back in 1974 in a 14 Ft Log Cabin.

How to judge a model railroad

how to Objectively judge a Model Railroad. All model railroads are good, there isn't a bad one out there, but how do we recognize when someone has put in a lot of work and their railroad is a beautiful work of art? Today we talk about how to do that.

My Layout from Someone Else's Perspective (And being Interviewed)

Last Saturday a good friend made the 2 hour drive north to visit, explore, and see my layout in person. It's always a little frightening to have someone else film your layout, as things tend to go wrong. I'm happy to say that things ran almost flawlessly, but I didn't completely mess up while talking on camera! The video is below.

Welcome to the fictional East Texas Branch of the Texas & Pacific Railroad

I have been working for the last couple of years on my fictional East Texas Branch of the Texas & Pacific Railroad.  The era is early 1940s.  All steam.  Located in East Texas it branches off west from the T&P mainline somewhere between Atlanta, Tx and Jefferson, Texas.   All trains run from Texarkana, Tx yard and Terminate at the end of the branch at Casey.  There are two towns, Casey and Mckenzi Junction, both named after my daughters.  There is a 3 track yard and multiple industries in Casey.  Casey is the west end of the branch.
