The Placerville Branch - Video1 Folsom to Dugan Video 2 Shingle Springs to Placerville
First, I apologize to readers for not writing in this summer. I've just been too busy with family matters including having to travel back east for sometime to assist someone close. These things happen, particularly as we age.
I have been in the layout room working like crazy as time allows. I've built a number of kits, done some scratch building, installed my first operating lower quadrant TO board at Dugan, built some tall pines, replaced some blue point manual switch controls with Tortoises, and got a bit of scenery work done.
Union Station Engine Facility Completion - Step by Step
Even though the ATSF Paradigm Division is still in the plywood prairie style of scenery, it is now, with the completion of the Union Station Engine Facility, 100% functionally complete and operational in DCC. The first video is done in a slide format and shows the general step-by-step construction & completion of the engine facility in three phases over a two month time period (June thru August 2016). Areas of emphasis have been annotated on the individual slides and/or have additional information provided before each section of the video.
Summer Progress
It's been a while since the last update on my layout, so I thought it might be time to update the good readers on MRH as to what's new. I'll place the pictures at the beginning of this post.
Thanks for following along!

Wetterau Food Services Micro Layout
Introduction:
The Wetterau Food Services Micro Layout was completed in February of 2016. Layout planning and construction began in 2014. I am currently enjoying operations on the layout, and wanted to share the steps I followed in building this micro layout here on MRH. I have learned quite a bit in building it, and hope you will find it informative.

Great Western Website Finally Updated
My Great Western website hasn’t been updated since 2012. I guess I’ve been too busy modeling and operating to spend much time on the computer (except to read all the excellent postings here). I’ve been corresponding with various people and have gotten tired of apologizing for no updates.
Stairway to Heaven Upgrade
As promised, and that made me get it done, the photos show what I meant by an upgrade. Still not connected fully together yet, since I have to remove it again to do gardening work at the base and the road crew needs to finish up their area. Anyway, wood was nice, but brick is better for this soon to be a High Class place.
Horseshoe & Cottonwood Update #10
It was another busy weekend on the layout. Several areas were worked on:
The most time was spent finishing the Alabama Hills. These iconic rocks were made from a custom mold that was made from rock samples from the hills and this weekend I finished painting and ballasting around them. We picked up more ballast last weekend, which when sifted has a slight but noticeable contrast to the surrounding soil. The first test train is shown above. More:
