Stand-alone portable DCC programming track

For my club, I'm planning to use a windows laptop and jmri decoder pro to make a portable programming track.. Several members have DCC at home, but are split among several mfrs. Some systems don't easily read existing values from a decoder. My plan is to read and save all cv values for each loco. Then if anyone needs to reset one of their decoders, we can do that quickly.

My question is, what do I use to connect the PC to the programming track?

Blackening Phosphor Bronze wire

Hi,

Do any of you here have any experience with blackening phosphor bronze wire?

I have some that I need to do this to for a project I'm working on.

Thanks.

Undecorated three bay hopper project.

Hi,

I've just started a project to make 52 (+3 for me) three bay covered hoppers.  ARI makes the full size car that I wanted to model exactly (the T4250) but there is no model of the car.  I've compromised by using an Intermountain Railway ACF 4650 covered hopper in kit form, gray styrene.  My thought is to do a blog of the start to finish of these cars.

Connecting switching power supplies at ground?

Hello,

Can I tie the grounds of switching power supplies together without causing problems?  I'm sure the loads (positive side) on each supply are not particularly well balanced at the moment.

I'm at the point of segregating LED lighting strips into areas.  I have three and may expand to four 12 volt 33 amp switching power supplies.  Wiring the control panel would become a lot easier if I could tie all the 12 volt grounds together.  I put a VOM between the grounds of two and got 40 volts and decided to ask questions.

Excel Inventory Spreadsheet from 12/2012 MRH

Does anyone know what happened to the website www.mrdccu.com? It had a good example of an inventory spreadsheet. It seems to have disappeared. Or does anyone out there have a copy of that spreadsheet (actually an Excel Workbook) they could send me .

Thanks

Train carry case ideas?

I hope "tools tips and tricks" is the right category for this, but...

When taking your trains places, how do you carry them? Right now, I pack my engines back in their boxes if I have to take it somewhere (like the hobby shop) but, I only do steam, and most of my steam, being Spectrums, means taking the tender off, and my Connie has already suffered two busted harness wires.
