How do we promote the hobby better in the 21st century?

Model Railroading is skewed towards both the male gender and the >40 age groups.

This simply is. It's a product of the interests of people, and their economic realities.

Instead of crying about the dearth of young people in the hobby, and how it's going to be the death of the hobby, let's do something positive:

New Year 2019

My New Years Resolution, is to tackle some of the Craftsman kits I have been collecting, but not building.

It will be my first dive into laser cut craftsman kits.

I have built Oscars  and Pikers, but not true laser cut craftsman kits. I have never assembled a "box of sticks" either.

So I'm resolving to correct that.

What is YOUR modeling resolution?

2018 IRR Year in Review (warning: boring blog post)

Going into 2018 I didn’t have a list of specific goals, just generally expanding the layout down to the end of the room, but looking back at the year there’s been pretty good progress on the layout:

Layout progress in 2018

It is the end of 2018 and looking back on the year I made a lot of progress on the layout.

Traveling around the USA looking at, running and taking pictures of some Model Railroads in 2019.

Hi All,

I’m at it again this year.  No more shoveling snow (and hopefully very little coal.)

Ending 2018 -Work in Progress

Ending 2018 with a few “Work-in-Progress” projects.

Gibbard Furniture

The cut down building is now roughly assembled. Have roof work to finish and signage to create. All the pictures I have seen of the prototype have a banner across the front with their name and incept date -- 1835. And a few have a corner roof sign. The windows have been filled in with images from the actual structure taken a couple of years ago on a sunny day. So the reflections are of what is actually across the street. An interesting structure now being torn apart for some developer condo fantasy.
