D&RG was the first to transport ore from the open cut operations at Bingham from the mine to the mills. They lost their contract just after a few short years. 84 wonderful construction photos of that line.

How common in the north east was Rock salt  as a rail delivered commodity? era late 70's 80's?  does anyone know if rock salt and sand came via rail premixed?

RR Communication in the 70s

How did crews communicate with the dispatcher and tower operators in the seventies?  

How did a yard switcher talk to a dispatcher?  

What did railroad communication look like in the seventies?
