Logging and Mining Operations

Anyone have Operating nights on their Logging or mining railroads? Just wondering if its possible to keep several guys happy running trains on a logging railroad. I say this because it would seem logging/mining they may not run on a schedule . More of an "as needed" system. I'm also wondering if I could have a "Convertible" layout. I model in On30 so I'm thinking of "Nesting" HO scale structures inside On30 structures. Then when the HO guys come over I just lift the On30 stuff off the layout and were ready to run in that "small" scale.

Paco has come out with a DIY DMX circuit for controlling Room lights

Control room lighting using DMX connected to your DCC system.

How to explain Scale and Gauge to an "outsider". ie. My wife

I have On30 trains for my basement layout and when my wife sees an "O Scale"  locomotive she says and I quote " That is Not the same size as your On30 locomotive. A scale size man in O scale is not right for On30!" I want to show her a photo of trains with Scale and Gauge but cant seem to find one online. I recently did see a photo something like what I'm looking for but cant remember where. I think it was several boxcars all the same color and lettering photographed from the end. "O" "On30" "HO" "HOn30".

O scale woodland seenics buildings at Menards

I was in Menards store today and saw some cool O Scale woodland scenics buildings. Highly detailed and prebuilt.

Under $100.00. Seemed like a good deal.

An F7 in the basement...!

Went on the NMRA Lansing Legacies 2011 layout tours. There were many impressive layouts with a lot of talented  modelers showing layouts. I have to say though .....This REALLY impressed me.I will be uploading videos and slideshows on my channel so check em out if you like.

DC throttle control with JMRI WiFi question

So, I'm wondering if its possible to control a DC layout with  JMRI and a WiFi throttle. No DCC. So, if someone didnt have DCC is there an interface ( Easy and cheap ) that would allow them to use their smartphone to run a train. I have a large scale "Thomas the Tank Engine" train set and would like to use a computer to control it. Also use Virtual Sound Decoder for added excitement. I know VSD can run without DCC so thats not an issue. Would be cool though if the sounds were synced with the throttle.

Progress on my Train Room - Video-

Well it's been a few months since I started working on the drywall in the train room. I have two coat's of mud on most of  it. You might notice that inside corners only have the first coat ( Usually called the "Bed Coat" ). I use Straitflex tape for all of my inside corners. After the bed coat all I have to do is feather out the edges with Topping compound.I use "all purpose joint compound" for the first two coats then for the final coat I will use "Topping" compound. Its a lot easier to sand!
