Lighted Magnifier in your pocket
Use your phone, smart phone or tablet to take pictures on you layout? You don't need to snap the picture just use the the highly magnified screen to check details, track alignment, etc. If you have an assisted light app turn it on first and it's like watching a wide screen TV. Think of the possibilities.

It started me thinking.
What to call this thing
I have 50+ of these from a yard sale. I know similar things are used on semi trailers to to show that they have not been opened before delivery. What would the UP have called them and what is/was the use? On TOFC trailers, on containers, on other rolling stock? Could even be on switchstands etc., I suppose. any ideas or info.?

Photo...LOTS of photos
NYC Library just release a LARGE group of photos. There are many different types here, menu's, stereoscopes, music sheets, etc.....but there are also a large selection of maps, railroad posters, railroad buildings, yards...well you get the idea. AND they are not all from New York. After digging around for over an hour, I found a Pioneer Zephyr poster and downloaded it....at full size ! They give you many options for downloading...so please take a look ! However....allow yourself some time.

IAIS's West End - A new "front door" for the layout
For the past several years I've been enjoying the work of Frank Grizel, a very talented eastern Iowa photographer and painter. Last February I contacted Frank about commissioning a painting for the entry into my layout room, and this week he finished it. The painting depicts three of my favorite IAIS locomotives - SD38-2 2809, GP7M 400, and GP38-2 709 - leading a westbound grain extra over the High Bridge on the east edge of Council Bluffs.
