Steam locos

San Diego & Arizona 2-8-0 #104 - Commission Project

Greetings,

I have posted on MRH before about my model of Buffalo Creek & Gauley locomotive which I modeled sing LEGO. Not long after finishing that model, I received a request for a quote for a similarly sized locomotive. Long story short, here is my completed model.

An experiment that went well; gluing brass numerals.

Trying to glue brass numerals to a surface has been not fruitful for me.

I can line them up and with the eye get them perpendicular,

but I need a thin adhesive that doesn't dry fast in order to position the numbers, which takes a few minutes.

Traction of our Steam Locomotives (Tenshodo's three point equalization)

I was just reading about this impressive auction that will be occurring with a big brass collection. Within the documentation there was this presentation. I'll provide the link, but I also thought it would be worthwhile posting this portion as it may disappear after the auction finishes,....

Correcting/improving Bachmann On30 locomotives for the ET&WNC

I created sets of scale builder plates, each with the right serial numbers and dates for ET&WNC ten-wheelers 9, 11, 12, and 14. I also used photos of the real number plates to make scale versions of them.

Bachmann did a great job on most of the engines but they always do their plates are opposite images of what they should be (black lettering on bronze which of course is opposite of how they looked in real life).

Almost done redoing brass 0-8-0 project

My goal for this old 0-8-0 is to clean it up, weather it, paint the rods and rims of the drivers that have lost some paint over the years, and change the numbers on the cab that should not be there.

Soldering the LED leads to the small connector board on a Decoder Buddy

I’ve posted the routing of LED leads in the “Whats On Your Workbench?” as snipits.  This is slightly more involved so I’ll post it separately.

The first step was to solder a lead to the positive side of the small connector board.  Just like the decoder the hot wire goes to all the LEDs.

I will be amalgamating these projects into one thread for my CNR 2-8-2. Stay tuned.

Painting over pad-printed wafer.

This CNR wafer was covered in a very tough and durable gloss lacquer.

I managed to rub through the gloss lacquer covering the wafer using an eraser and realized it is not a decal, but a pad printed wafer on the black finish.
