DCC - Electrical

DCC or RailPro

This is an observation

Not trying to start a war between RailPro and DCC, but as I'm looking at it, I wish there was a mix between the controllers of RailPro and DCC being able to buy locomotives that have the decoders built in.  After looking at prices between Rail Pro decoders which I have to install and getting locomotives with them already installed seems to be pretty close to a wash including time it takes to install them plus program them.

Layout Update Mid-May 2015

Construction on the ATSF Paradigm Division has been progressing slowly over the last month or so.  I have been working on power district # 4 near the west helix for the past month or so. All of the track, turnouts, and wiring has been installed for Michaelson Jct. (simulates Ottawa Jct., KS) , the branch line over the top of the west helix to Michaelson, and Michaelson (simulates Ottawa, KS). Additionally, all of the sub-roadbed (plywood) for the peninsula has been installed and all of the cork roadbed has been glued down and painted with the dark base color that I have been using.

Decoder Pro Question

This is probably a beginner question but I have a NCE Power Cab system for the school club and I was wondering if I needed a separate system to use decoder pro? Any ideas?

Tsunami ditch light programming question

I'm programming my first units with working independent ditch lights - Athearn Genesis GP38-2s and an SD70ACe - and I'm having the same ditch light issue with all 5 units.  I have CV40 set to 6, activating FX5 and FX6, which causes F6 to activate both front ditch lights.

Twin track main line crossover

G'day all,

Can you control two Tortoise switch machines from one DPDT toggle switch? We have a simple crossover between a pair of mainlines. My paper wiring plan looks okay - anything I should be aware of? I would wire LED's in series with both switch machines as route indicators.

Port of Morehead City- Long Overdue Update

It's been far too long since my last update. While work on the layout has been moving at an absolutely glaical pace for the past several months, this last week I've been working feverishly to get some work done. The main thing I've accomplished since the last post was the completion of the trackwork.

[GWMS] Awesome News

I did post this in our club topic but I couldn't help putting it here to. I will be receiving for me a NCE cup, hat and shirt along with for the club an NCE Power Cab System I can't wait to try this thing out. Also with that they sent 4 decoders which is a perfect start for our club.

Short cicuit protection for the NCE Powercab

This is my first post, having just been introduced to this great magazine by a fellow model railroader.

I am 72 and my son 38, and together we are building a shoulder height double track mainline layout around the walls of an average sized room. The layout will feature a mainline in Philadelphia between 1935 and 1950.The layout will be running three loco's maximum at any one time, one of which is a 1970's brass model of the Pennsylvania L6 electric loco.

Speakers for DCC Sound Decoders

Hello Everyone,

I would like tio introduce a new and awesome speaker to all of my fellow molders. I have a friend that owns a computer repair shop here in Dallas, TX. he gave me a couple of different pairs of speakers from lap tops that are no longer upgrade able. These speakers are both very small, compact and have a very large range of sound. If you think about that volume and every thing that you can play on a lap top then why not.
