Update on the Colorado Front Range Railroad

A little different this time I talk about about how we are going about laying track. I have some question about RR-cirkits watchmen and a few thanks going out to two gentlemen who have help my out on photos the last two weeks.

Here is the link and enjoy.

Measuring Athearn Current Draw

Just because you’ve switched to DCC doesn’t mean you should toss or sell your old DC power pack. Well, if you are like me you have 5 or more in the tickle trunk so I guess you could sell some of them. I need to know the free running and stall current of an old Athearn GP9 to ensure the decoder I have is suitable. Out comes my meter, power pack and a few clip leads to hook things up.

Trainmaster (H-24-66) DCC Sound

I have an Atlas Trainmaster silver series. I would like to try my hand at installing a sound decoder. I am having difficulty locating a sound decoder manufacturer that has a sound file for the Trainmaster. Most indicate a switcher or C-Liner sound file.

Atlas S2 DCC Decoder Install

Tonight I completed my first DCC decoder install. I am planning a small inglenook switching layout and wanted to go DCC with it. I bought an NCE PowerCab system but I don't own any DCC locomotives. I have a couple of Digitrax decoders that I bought a while ago but the locomotive I wanted to use for my switching layout is my old Atlas/Roco S2 switcher. I discovered that NCE makes a board replacement decoder for it so I ordered it up.

SMA10 – Build a 17-Function DCC Decoder for about $5

My activities in Scale Model Animation often lead me to use DCC as a control method for sequencing. This could include building and street lights, even sparking welders and twinkling camp fires. Timing can be done with JMRI scripts (Like this: http://youtu.be/RXpvp5mIXvU?list=PL4dHfZjHc9t-pvctGQzSuOXBLG1M42xbS) or with programmatic control (Like this: http://youtu.be/zlcdJKXj_YI?list=PL4dHfZjHc9t-pvctGQzSuOXBLG1M42xbS).

DCC Lighting Help

I have a pair of second hand N-scale Kato SD-40-2's that came equipped with Digitrax decoders.  I'm assuming that they are DN1631 decoders and further assuming that they might be DN1631K1C decoders as that is the Digitrax decoder currently available for this locomotive.

I've successfully reset both of the decoders using the DV8 008 entry.  The chips went back to the default address of 003, the acceleration and deceleration settings went back to zero and I assume everything else went back to 'normal'.

Athearn genesis MP15AC issues. FIXED

Hello all. Have an Athearn genesis MP15AC that runs erratically. It stalls and runs every few steps. Anyone have issues with this model?. What to check?

Maybe have to clean the wheel pickups but I don´t know how to disassemble the trucks.

what decoder would fit a spectrum ballast spreader (HO)

I would like to instal a decoder into a spectrum self propelled (DC) ballast spreader. There is very little space. Can anybody suggest a decoder that would fit ? hardydittmar

Length of Reversing Section

HO and DCC. Test layout will become lower level of larger layout, but I want to run trains on what I have. In the Rev_1 reversing section the track length from MANNY to the crossover next to MOE holds my longest train. But the route from JACK to MOE doesn't. I think this is OK, however, because the rails to the right of MOE and GERT are wired to busses the same way as the rails at JACK. See the little arrows. Am I correct that this arrangement won't derange an autoreverser?
