Arduino Based DCC Control of 8 Relays
There was a discussion on this forum the other day about using DCC to activate or deactivate track segments. The simplest way to do this with DCC is to toggle relays on or off to supply or cut power to these segments.
A good bit of work has been done recently on using Arduino based DCC decoders and I felt that this was a logical extension of the work that has been done to date.
Programing DCC block watcher with JMRI ?
Can I program a "DCC Block Watcher" (block detector) using a JMRI computer interface and how can that be done? I am a bit of a novice when it comes to programing cvc's. The only thing I've done in that vein is assign train numbers. I am using an MRC Prodigy Advance2 system.
Installing Detection & Signals on the JL&T...
This will be our new thread that will chronicle our Signaling Planning & Installation. It may be a little out of step at the start but that's because the plan is still fluid at the moment as to what the end outcome will be.
Hope you all enjoy it and get something out of it.

Tsunami 1.5v bulb question
Hey guys.
Has anyone else used the 1.5volt circuit on a SoundTraxx tsunami for loco headlight/backup lights using SoundTraxx 1.5 volt or similar bulbs? I have found the lights are very dim. They aren't even noticeable when on the dimmed setting. Am I doing something wrong or are they just very low output bulbs. I could hook them up to the 12 volt contacts with resistors but i thought the whole point of the 1.5 volt contacts was to avoid having to do this.
Any help is greatly appreciated..
Thanks
Question on Wye and Reverser
As I approach the time for tracklaying, I'm still a bit confused on the use of an auto-reverser for DCC. I know around my wye I should have one and would prefer using one and not some sort of switch.
I'm running a point to point with a large wye in the middle. The plan is ultra-simplified here.
Using an NCE EB1 Circuit Breaker
I've got a point-to-point layout broken into 4 power areas. I've got a Power Pro 5 which is enough to handle all the switching. My question is setting up the EB1 circuit breakers. I've attached a diagram on how it seems you set them up. The instructions from NCE discuss setting up one, not multiple.
Progress continues on the Colorado Front Range Railroad.
1) Results of my test running diesel locomotives versus steam locomotives pulling up the ruling grade. Maybe not what you expected my Broadway Limited 2-10-2's vs SD9's
The winner pulled 6.4 lbs up the 1.2% grade (with a curve)
2) John got much of the electronics figured out to this week including our block detectors.
3) Sean got a little more track laid and the entire sub roadbed for the yards in Denver.
answer to the blog question and problems that I posted early:
Penn Lake 8 Control Panels (Update 11/18/17)
Been playing with some ideas for control panels for Penn Lake version 8. The panels represent towers controlling each interlocking or group of linked interlockings. I haven't decided yet whether to group all the panels together as shown here or split them up, with each panel near its tower.
