Turnout and blocks
Should a turnout be in it's own block or part of a block?
MicroEngineering DCC friendly turnouts power to points
I have bought some Micro Engineering "DCC friendly" turnouts.
"The metal frog can be powered", the closure rails get power "via built-in jumpers from their adjacent stock rails"
The instruction says: "Switch rails (points): Power is already supplied to the two Switch rails via the built in hinge rail joiners at the closure rail/switch rail junction"
UnDcc a loco
Was wondering if anyone could tell me how to remove a DCC decoder from a loco and make it DC. I just purchased a Life-Like Proto 2000 GP-9 II Central Vermont hard to find.I run DC and have over 30 locos all nonDCC except 2 which are Atlas w/sound, their Quantum engineer, with a controller for sound. Don't get me wrong I have nothing against DCC, it's just the cost for decoders and new controls is way more than I care to spend. I would prefer to spend my money on more locos, cars, layout.
Sound but no motor
Hi All I got a Proto 2000 GP 38 with soundtraxx dsd-ll10lc decoder. Engine has been sitting for years. I took it out and put it on the track nothing. I have an NCE system so I went to check things out on the program track. Reentered the address and then had sound. But no movement. Went into program mode again and it would not accept any starting voltage or top end any thoughts? thanks Geoff
Installing ditch lights
Hi,
I am interested in installing ditch on some of our club and also on some of my locomotives. Have noticed that some locomotives have the ditch either on top or on the bottom of the anti climber section in front.
So my question is who has the best housing for these projects, type of bulbs, lamp, or LED's that works best for this, size of resistors that would be needed, and type and size of wire for these install.
LokSound - ESU P42
Hi All,
I see a discussion about LokSound vs Soundtraxx for a P42 saying the LokSound is superior to the soundtraxx.
If a person was to purchase a decoder from lokSound for a P42 what would you need? A progammer and the decoder (Part number I am unsure of from their websie)?
If that is the case I would need to invest in more LokSound decoders to get value for money from the programmer?!
I have a couple of non-dcc Athearn P42's and need to convert the to DCC in the future, so curious to know options.

Decoder-pro ? for bruce
I just downloaded the latest JAVA and Decopro. Included in the new icons on my screen is one for Decoder-pro3. What is this and what advantages does it hold? John Colley, Sonoma, CA
Speaker Question
In Mr. Petrarca's current DCC Impulses column, he refers to a 4 speaker installation and shows it in Fig. 4 on page 26. Question: It appears that the speakers are mounted to the plastic base cone side toward the plastic. Are there holes cut in the plastic for the sound to escape or is the plastic sheet acting as enclosure? I am working on a P2K E6 unpowered unit and have lots of room for speakers.... I am contemplating 4 28mm high bass speakers...
Thanks,
Dan
