Using Prolific USB-to-Serial Adapters with PC Software
This article has been prompted by several users of model railroad related software, including JMRI Decoder Pro and my own A-Track application for NCE systems, reporting difficulties in using USB-to-Serial adapters made using Prolific hardware.
RailPro v2 Released by Ring Engineering
Somehow I missed the announcement, but Ring Engineering has released a second generation of their RailPro product line: Locomotive Module (LM), Handheld Controller (HC) and Power Supply (PWR). I have been trying to keep my eye on this product line for a few years now, and this comes as exciting news.
Research on which DCC system to install
I'm looking at several DCC systems to utilize on a 12 X 23 foot layout. I'm leaning toward CVP products. Anyone here know of a downside to these products? Appreciate your input. Thanks!
Frog Juicing
Can Frog Juicing cause electrical arcing or pitting of wheels ,specifically On30 MMI Locos.
Tortoise Control - Need Your Assistance Please
I am very nearly finished cutting sub-roadbed and will be laying track soon. The plan is to build each track "section" on the workbench for transfer to the benchwork once complete. Think of it as building fully functional track work modules off the layout.
To avoid confusion of terms let's call a railroad switch a turnout and an electrical switch a switch.

The DCC Re-Animator
The Re-Animator is a campy old school horror movie series. The DCC Re-Animator is my attempt to bring old-school operating accessories back to relevance by installing DCC and other simple upgrades. I am hoping that this series will inspire all of us push the boundaries of DCC. The premise is simple – take an old school “Operating” or “Action” car or accessory and make it work with DCC. The first edition looks at the Bachmann Action Caboose.
Digitrax DB150
The track status light is out and I don't have power to my tracks. The power is getting to the DB150 - hope this doesn't mean that I'm up for a new one. Long way from my home to Digitrax too. Any clues as to what can be tried to fix this problem? It is a few years old. Thanks. Tom
