Locos - Rolling stock (general)

Kitbashed grain car (a blast from the past)

While digging through my ample stockpile of freight equipment in Rubbermaid containers I dug out something I had almost forgotten about.  In the late 1980's about the only cylindrical hopper car available was the Model Power car that was a tad... unprototypical.  Bachmann released a cylindrical car that was better than the Model Power car, but not correct for the Canadian style car.

Grain Loads and Boxcars

Hi everyone,

I was curious as to how you simulate grain loads, namely corn or wheat in HO scale? I am seeking to detail boxcars for grain loading and would like to show loads in cars with operable doors. I am also looking at how to create grain doors in both paper and board forms, prototype and model photos would be greatly appreciated.

Scratchbuilt 3D printed, 12 axle, 325 ton Drop Deck Flatcar.

I was asked recently if I would consider making a 12 Axle, heavy duty flat car as a kit to offer.  I thought, Why not?  It’s unique and it would present a great design challenge.  After a bit of research, I decided on the Kasgro 325 ton 12 Axle flatcar shown here as my prototype.  There’s plenty of photos available on line, plus it’s red!  Who can resist a bright red car?

Exactrail Bethlehem 3483 Hopper : D&RGW

Has anyone bought any of these?

If so? Are they worth the price. Im looking at ordering some but they work out at around $53NZD per car, with the current exchange rate. They are the type of hopper I will be needing on my future layout. Or is there a more cost effective way?

SPSF Meadow Sub: GP7 (Front Range Products) Powering Project (Kato)

This weekend I started a powering project and thought it would interest fellow modelers on this site, so I will post the steps here as I go along.

Allagash 425 - New pics of first Allagash / Guilford-painted power!

Allagash 425, an Alco C425 rolled out of the paint shop last week. Former CR/PC acquired by AGR in 1979.

This is the first, and probably one of only two Allagash, Guilford-painted locomotives planned. We're in April 1984, and there were only a few locomotives from Maine Central, Boston & Maine and Delaware & Hudson painted in the new GTI colors. Following that reality, I'll only do a couple of Allagash units in the gray and orange.

Proto 2000 2-8-8-2 disassembly

Does anyone have a good resource or documentation on disassembling a Proto 2000 2-8-8-2, or an exploded view drawing would be helpful too.

Thanks!
