Operations
New layout idea
Hello,
I'm a model railroader living in Germany and I'd like to start a new layout. All of my previous layouts were German Deutsche Reichsbahn layouts but I've been very interested in american railroading for many years. I have collected many american locos and cars during several years - most of it is used stuff I found on the *bay.
Main Track Authority Overview
Several people and websites have put out some operations overviews lately. I thought I would take a shot at a main track authority overview, so here's something I whipped up today. Its several pages on my website. As I get time I will add some pictures and diagrams.
There are 4 parts:
Superiority of Trains : TT&TO
Superseding the Superiority of Trains : Rule 251, Interlockings and CTC
Post Superiority of Trains : TWC and DTC
Shipper-driven Traffic Simulator "How to" videos now available
Version 3 of the Shipper-driven Traffic Simulator (STS) has been available for a while, but I just finished some "How-to" videos that will help with the database set up process and using STS during an operating session. There are seven videos in all. So far.
JMRI
Hi.
Found your site when I was researching track automation, specifically JMRI.
Have just started reading the article from Oct last year and already it has answered questions I had.
Seems to be very clear and detailed. Looking forward to completing the series.
Your magazine is excellent. I subscribe to a British magazine, but feel that yours is superior.
Detecting Turnout Occupancy?
About to start wiring my Staging deck...and back when I was laying my turnouts down, I isolated them from the connecting tracks so their occupancy could also be detected (for future proofing)...I'm just not sure whether they should be at all.
Presuming use of JMRI at the beginning, while at some point in the future Staging would be fully automated and under computer control, I'm looking for some kind of a "best practice" whether turnout occupancy is necessary or not.
An hour at the Switchlist Operations Session
Our club does switchlist and car cards operations sessions. In this video, I spent a couple of hours with the switchlist crew and watched switching in action.
CN’s Rail Inspection Portals
Found out about this now - it's kind of old news (last year), but worth sharing.
