Operations
Computer to DCC
I hope this dont start a big commotion...but I have a digitrax Zephyr, and few different computers running windows XP and Windows 7. What would be the best connection path for DCC to Computer for me to run Decoder Pro and dabble into the JMRI realm? I know digiteax makes items has a brand new 4 version box. I've seen sprog mentioned loco buffer. Is there one or any other way that stands out??
Operating session on the Santa Fe Hereford Subvision - Photo Tour.
On Saturday I was privileged to operate on the Santa Fe Hereford Subdivision Layout owned by Sammy Carlile.
The Hereford sub is a double Deck Nolix layout built in a double garage and has been featured in the Railroad Model Craftsman. It is based o the ATSF from Amarillo Tx to Clovis NM. Sammy is an excellent modeler and is very handy at weathering. The layout is operated by a crew of 10, 4 2man train crews a dispatcher and generl superintendent Sammy. Digitrax wireless DCC is used for control and radio communications.
"Derra North" - An improbable ultimate layout
Hi all,
This blog is about "Derra North" - the Unanderra North Junction on the South Coast Line of NSW Australia, It is perhaps my "ultimate layout" that will almost certainly never be built.
Previously I'd written on another thread
Unusual Industry
Here's an industry that I haven't seen modeled very often, if at all... a pole peeling facility.
Let me explain... Yesterday, a friend and I were treated to a tour of the local (Conway, WA) Bell Lumber & Pole Company. This particular facility only receives poles (power poles), peels them, and then ships them out by rail.
G-scale switch stands on an HO layout
I finally installed my first G-scale switch stand on one of the Milan runaround turnouts.
Hidden Staging Video Camera?
Looking for suggestions from the experts.... I have a long hidden track that runs from my staging yard (closet), behind the backdrop around my room and emerges onto the layout. Total run is about 50 feet, around 3 sides of the room. This room, BTW, is a "bonus room" over a garage with sloped ceilings. So this hidden track is behind my backdrop, on a shelf (the backdrop is removable for maintenance/rescue). And the light level back there is minimal - not totally dark, as there is some reflected light from below, but not real bright, either.
Layout Op Sessions in Omaha/Council Bluffs area
I am looking for any layouts open to new people participating in op sessions in the Omaha / Council Bluffs area. I am open to driving to Lincoln if it works with my schedule. I have been modeling since I can remember and am currently working on a 13' x 7' N Scale MRL layout. I am familiar with NCE and Digitrax and understand basic op session guidelines, though this would be my first time.
Show your train order signals!
Show your modeled train order signals!
I was interested in modeling a horizontal color light signal as seen below, possibly using a Tomar TO Signal as a starting point. Can you post your modeled TO signals, semaphore, light, or other? Also ideas for lighting, control, and fascia panels would be appreciated. I am looking for ideas and inspiration.
A guest at an Ops Session
About a month or so ago I was invited to join an operating session at a home in my new hometown. I was excited to have an opportunity to operate on another Modeler's layout as most of my experience seeing other Modelers works in-person has been through small, modular displays at various train shows.
