Operations
Operation Reflections of a Newbie
This past weekend I attended Port City Rails 2016 in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. A joint convention of the Maritime Federation of Model Railroaders (MFMR) and the North East Region of the NMRA (NER) Part of the festiviites were operating sessions on three different layouts.
I had never operated before but was assured by several folks that all would be well.
That doesn't describe the positive experience I had. It was fantastic.

Is this a railroad crossing sign or something else?
I've been staring at this picture of Woodlands station (on the Putnam Division of the NYC) for about three days now trying to work out what that object on the left is:

Operations Etiquette
I am about to go to my first ops session. It is being hosted in conjunction with a local NER/MFMR convention. I am a little nervous as I have never been part of an ops session before. Is there something I should be aware of as a first time operator? I am hoping this sparks an interest for me.

JMRI Switcher - Move Same Car Twice in One Build
Does anyone know how, or if it's possible, to move the same car twice in one build of a local switcher train in JMRI?
GoPro Clip
Just learning all the ins and outs of my GoPro camera and editing software. One thing is clear, if I want to shoot more video at 1080p I'll need a new computer or a honking big external drive...

Site of Interest
I just came across this site and thought it might be of interest to folks modeling specific dates or date ranges. It's called OnThisDay.com. You can find some interesting info for any dates you choose. Factoring history into the plan can bring greater relevance to operations and it's a great source for modeling ideas that could make the difference between a nice scene and a great scene.

Perfect modern Inglenook (with GP10!)
I ran across this wonderful video of Chicagojoe28’s showing operations on the Chicago Terminal railroad.
This is a modern Inglenook configuration that would provide a lot of operating possibilities in a very small layout space. Since there is a current thread talking about smaller layouts, I thought this would be interesting to discuss on its own thread.
