Operations
Logical traffic questions
Railroad ABC, which runs on a 5 day schedule, and has several industries. Each industry has only 1 siding. If industry X has a siding capacity of 6 pieces of rolling stock, and can load or unload that many in 8 hours. I would think that:
1. A random amount of rolling stock, based on their requirements, would be delivered each day?
2. All the rolling stock will be loaded or unloaded, and will be removed when the railroad delivers the next days rolling stock?

Note; The car movement cards work. There are two more things I need to improve on my layout.
1. Job card
2. Standardize switch controls.
Here to There operations Software
I have come across a reference to the above software programme which appears to base operation around realistic waybills and dispenses with traditional carcard/waybill combinations. Has anybody out there tried this system and if so what was your experience of it?
Operations - created an overview map & schematic
I'm getting ready to start some 'test' op sessions, and have been creating documentation to help guests quickly understand both the layout and the historical / prototype context I'm trying to recreate.
So, I created a few 'overview' sheets and posted them around the layout. What do you think?
Tracking and managing maintenance activities
First, let me say that I think Joe Fugate is some sort of marketing genius. The title of the new book series "Run Like a Dream" is inspired. I realize that all of my model railroad dreaming is about how the layout looks, what kinds of trains I run, operating scenarios I will execute. I take "it will run well" for granted. But, now I think I will also have dreams about "it runs really really sweetly."

Another Ops Session & Rutherford Yard test...
So Tuesday night was our semi-regular ops session again for the first time in 2016.
Unfortunately as we were busy problem solving and entertaining I didn't get any ops photos or videos. Next ops session there will be both...
Multiple Era Layout Decision - Before or After 1954, DT ABS or ST CTC, Steam or Diesel
Hi everyone,
I am modeling the Great Northern in Minnesota in 1954. I am building a 2x10 set of modules currently for a small switching layout and plan on building a larger mainline shelf layout in the future to add on. I am planning the layout to make it so that I can switch between 1954 other eras. This will be for 1-3 operators.
