Removing paint from plastic models
Don't ask how I discovered this, but it seems butyl cellosolve (an ingredient in Joe's acrylic paint thinner) makes a pretty good paint remover for plastic models. It seems to be as fast as Scalecoat II Wash Away but is less expensive and does not smell nearly as bad.
My question is: Is there a reason I SHOULDN'T use it.
Thanks!
Help me select paint BN loco
I have my O scale SW-9 torn apart and stripped. I want to repaint it to look like the BN 149. I’m a complete novice at painting locomotives, so any tips are helpful.
I’d like to see other people BN paint jobs and the paint colors they used. Also, what color primer did you use. There are so many paint brands and it’s hard to figure out what it looks like until it’s on a surface.
WANTED: Kartrak/ACI Information
WANTED:
Any information, photos, or stories of the Sylvania/GTE Kartrak ACI system.
Consider this an informal announcement that I am in the final research phase of writing a reference guide detailing the Kartrak system. No release date or estimated date of completion is available at this time. I've already compiled a large amount of the information that can be found online.
I'm especially interested in advertisements, manuals, photos, and personal stories.
Summertime Railroading
Well summertime has taken toll on model railroading. If you have followed my blog you know that I have at least two projects in the works but I don't seem to get to finishing them due to outside interests.
The other day I got bored but didn't want to get into the projects so I decided to do a little design work. A future project is a Vehicle Repair and lay down area for the Chippewa. Of course I am waiting on Walther's to release the kit. The laydown area will have equipment enclosures, signals, grade crossing equipment, etc.
Turntable Scratch Build
For about 30 years I've wanted to attempt to build a turntable from scratch. I read an article by Bob Hayden where he built a narrow-gauge turntable for Dave Frary's layout using a 1/4" phono plug as the pivot, and I thought that was a great idea. It's taken me several decades to get to it, but I'm finally giving it a go! I'm documenting the story here, rather than in an article, because it's really Bob's idea (thanks Bob) and because I have no idea how this will turn out! Wish me luck.
Paint Lists
I am wondering if anyone has a spreadsheet list of Vallejo Model Air or Model Color Paints? I want to create a chart i can take with me on my phone (IPhone) so I don’t buy colors I already have.
And while I COULD type it in myself I would rather not duplicate effort.

Wall color
I have decided to paint the walls in my train room blue. In taking the lazy way out, I would like to take a poll on the shade of blue that you used and are happy with. Please give me the paint manufacturer and shade color number.
I know that it seems like an odd request but there are so many shades of blue to choose from.
