Downsizing OSCR - turnout removal as per prototype

When I talk about downsizing, I'm not saying the overall size of the layout. In fact, the Ontario South Central Railway has grown 4 1/2 feet with a long staging/Interchange since its inception at its first location. My issue is turnouts. I have about 4 I have to replace. About $150 worth. And as a musician and near min. wage job I can't afford to do that. So...what to do?

Adding a capacitor to a Walthers light board

I have a Walthers HO passenger dome car that came with a nice LED light board. The big problem is that it flickers terribly. I would like to add a capacitor to the circuit. The image below is the board that goes on the short end of the dome car. The red & black wires on the right go to the larger light board at the other end of the car. The gray pads on the left corners are the rail power contacts. Some of the traces can been seen on this side of the board. There is nothing visible on the other side. I am assuming some traces are buried in the board.

Looking for Low RPM Solution

I am working on an N scale structure project and want to add some animation. I need to animate part of it so there is a constant rotation of around 6-10 RPM. It isn’t large and load isn’t the issue. My questions are around the best way to provide a low RPM solution that can run for 10-20 minutes in a stretch.

Things I have considered:

Gear reduction on a small motor running at speed. My concerns with this are:

Proto 1000 RDC

Hi to all;

A friend brought me a Proto 1000 RDC to repair ( not running ).  When I took the body off I found the first reason why it would not run, it had been converted to DCC, and the main board had been altered.

He wants me to get it working on DC again, I have fixed the cut traces on the board and removed the decoder.  There were 8 diodes that have been cut off and two jumper wires installed?  I have de-soldered and removed the cut off diode leads.

Terminals for Tortoise

I found these terminals that I can use on my Tortoise machines.  Digikey part # ED2637-nd  Manufactor's part # OSTTE040161.  Less than $2 with quantity buying.

AC scenery lighting

I'm building a simple loop with the DC running the engine and the AC powering the scenery lighting. I only have 4 streetlights, so it's not a big draw, but my controller says the output is 19V AC and the streetlights say 12V maximum (AC or DC). What do I need to do to make this work?

N-scale Peco Turnout issue

N-scale. Using Peco live frog turnouts, Peco switch machines, and the add-on (PL-13 Accessory switch) that does frog current switching automatically. Testing on bench was all good. Then after being put in layout, would not work. Apparently, the bottom current switcher, PL-13, was causing binding.

Outdoor occupancy detector for 7 1/4 gauge?

Any ideas for an occupancy detector for an outdoor ride-on railroad?

We would like a trigger for the grade crossing of the club's 7 1/4 gauge RR

I don't know if an infrared motion detector would detect a train car backing up - that would be at ambient temperature.
