Layout tour

Keystone Modular

Here are a few photos from last year's modular visit to the Ft. Hunter Barn Christmas Show. At least one portion of the layout changes each year to bring excitement to the show. A craft fair and visits to the historic barn and village attracts hundreds of people each weekend. The club has been doing this show for over 10 years now.

Keystone Model RR Club

Here are some shots from the club's recent Open House tour. Quality of the little megapixel camera isn't that great, but you get the general idea. I was recently asked to join and run the CTC Board with my friend Harry Owens. The layout is in an old historic building (substation for a defunct trolly line) and is roughly 25 x 70 feet. Much is undergoing reconstruction. Most of the conversion to DCC and an operating board has taken place for the past 4 years.

Lookin' back ...

I was pawing through piles of old slides looking for one in particular. Instead I found these.

These photos were taken on the previous Bear Creek and South Jackson layout on the Jallen branch line. They reminded a bit of what an old cuss I'm getting to be. So I resurrected my old slide scanner and here they are...

SP 4105 on the Jallen causeway module. I never did much running here on account of selling the house and moving shortly after this part of the layout was completed.

Major Progress - I Am a Happy Camper

After a lot of fun with foam, the upper level benchwork for the new Great Western is installed and ready for track. All that remains is to install the Masonite backdrop.

This is the right side of the center peninsula. The Loveland GW yard is on the right, the I-25 overpass at Birds is at the lower rear and Officer Jct is in the lower front. One side of Johnstown and the start of the Welty Branch with sugar beet dumps is on the top.  The new fascia is not painted satin black yet.

The Train Room aka The Mother in law room.

The Train Room aka The mother in law room.  This room is 11.5' x 19.5' built on the back patio of the house.  The owner before me used it as an art studio.  I used it for storage at the time of the photos.  The room has no climate control and 2 doors with 2 types of windows on the East (Glass Door Sliding Door) and West (Normal Door) walls.  The north wall (Finished at this time) is a 2x4 stud wall with the back yard on the other side.  The south wall is the the house (Cinder Block wall).  You can see the slope in the ceiling fr

Summer Shunting Shelf Project

My nine-year-old daughter & I are building an N-scale shelf switching layout for the summer. Even though layout design is one of my trades, my daughter brushed aside my ideas & jumped on Byron Henderson’s “Alameda Belt Line”: a 1’ x 6’ shelf designed to fold in half for portability.
