Layout tour
November 4, 2014 update on the Colorado Front Range Railroad
Well we have over 512 feet of track laid 37 turnouts build. I also give a tour of my Denver Union Station and my scratch build Grain Elevator that is over 51 inches long.
I hope this video inspires some of you.

Another great layout that is in the Southeast Region, Piedmont Div of the NMRA. Norm's layout is part of Dixie Rails and we had a great weekend operating on a bunch of great layouts.
Progress Update # 2A
I have continued to build and install risers on the main level (3/4 inch dimensional lumber pieces) and for about half of the 3rd level (either pieces of dimensional lumber or cut from ripped sections of leftover pieces of plywood). Much of the material that I am using for risers are being culled from the very large collection of lumber pieces left over from my previous layout.
Highlights from my trip to the US
I was just looking through some pictures from my 2012-trip to the US. There are some nice ones in there, so I thought I'd share some with you guys. This first one has to be my favourite; yours truly running the "Pennsy Transfer" at Paul Dolkos' Baltimore Harbour layout.

Like most people, I began an interest in trains at an early age. I received an AHM train set in Junior High, and played with it through high school, but I put it away when I went to college. Shortly after I got married, I picked a copy of the June 1981 MR, and read the article on 4 x 8 Track Planning. The Arkansas Southern was something I could build, so I did. Then I expanded it, then I converted my cars to KD couplers. Through graduate school and jobs I always had at least a 4x8 layout, with an emphasis on operating.

N-land Pacific FreemoN at the Banning Train Fest 2014
We were invited to set up at the Banning Train Fest this year and had a great time. Nine member took part and some modules from other members were included. We have been filling a 50x70 space, but this time 30x40 was all we could fill up. We were still able to run fairly long trains, have a container carrier score card game, and do some switching. Fun stuff.

There are two other Youtube videos if you are interested in the larger layouts.
Progress Update # 2 - October 2014
The support structure for the main level has been completed. The full scale drawings (discussed in my August 2014 blog) of the layout were taped together and laid out on the supports with the help of poster board. This gave me a good idea if the tracks were where I wanted them.
What's New on the Thunder Mesa Mining Co.
I've decided to take the plunge and expand my On30 TMMC into the remaining available space in my art studio/train room. I've been doodling some new plans and they all involve evicting my poor, dust-gathering N scale layout from its current spot in the corner. For those not familiar with the TMMC layout, it started out as a 3'x6' caboose chaser a little over three years ago and it just keeps growing.
FREMO modular layout
Last weekend I visited a modular layout of a FREMO model railroader group in southern Germany. It was really great by dimensions and by quality!
