Modeler's Tip: Possible source for free tools

I'm always looking for free / cheap tools and supplies.  Yesterday when I visited my dentist for my semi-annual cleaning I was able to score some dental picks the same kind that they charge a couple of bucks for at train shows.  On my previous visit I asked the dental assistant if I could have any leftover tool that they normally throw out and she said sure!  She said that they even sterilize the tools that they throw out so they are safe.  I use the picks for carving rocks and other chores so they come in handy. Oh, by the way - the mirror is the magnifying type.

Christmas Tree Train Project

Hello!

I'm looking for some advice on my elevated train project.

I haven't had a train since I was a kid (and that was awhile ago) so I know nothing about building layouts.

I recently purchased the Lionel Polar Express Remote Train Set - O-Gauge, and an additional Lionel - FasTrack - Straight Track - 4 Pack so this gives me eight curved 0-36 FasTrack sections, seven 10" straight FasTrack sections, one 10" FasTrack wall-pack terminal section in total.

What is this??

I found this one in one of my used train cars, it is definitely aftermarket but I can't tell what it is?p

Inside the iPhone 4s speaker

I suffered my first iPhone 4s speaker failure today.

So after I replaced the speaker, I opened it up for everyone to see.

The arrow indicates the sound port opening.

Cheers!

How do you organize your tools?

I'm just started my journey from the armchair modeler to an active modeling life in the basement. During the preparation for this transition I have acquired some (or better: a lot) tools. I basically got almost anything I read about or I thought it could be useful, or even better I just "needed".

But how can all this get organized? As you see below I kind of suck at this. Period.

So how do you categorize, store and whatever your model railroad tools?

Ideas for small switching layout? (Decided on design I think)

I am looking for ideas that I could use for a small 2'x5' switching layout. I have that much space in my room and am trying to plan as much as possible to pitch the idea to my parents.
