Quick Tip: #1 [or smaller] Phillips Bit & a bonus extra

So, I have not had any time to model this week, or last week, or the week before, or ever since my shop found out I can build stuff.  This quickly turned into "Hey Ben, I need a corner desk" followed by "Hey Ben, I have this stone Chess set..."  I swear, this is the last "For Hire" work I do!!!

Club Membership and Funds

I am a member of Waynesborough Model Rail Road Club. We are a small club of around 15 members. We have a rather large layout. Some of it dates back to the early 70's, and we are currently in an expansion doubling our size. My question is for other clubs. How do you advertise for lack of a better word, and gain new members? Also a small club trying to expand as you know takes money that we don't have. How do other clubs find donors or money to not only expand and grow, but survive.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated to a struggling older club.

3D Printing: There Goes the Neighborhood.

My Uncle sent me this link.  $2,000-$3,000...yikes.  Boy, is this an exciting time to be alive!!!

Stone Walls

As a damn (proud) Yankee, one of the things that often defines the North East, and especially my home (which is also the area which I'm modeling) are (field) stone walls. Long before some states were, well, states, folks in the North East had cleared their lands, and used the unfortunate primary crop from their fields (stone) to create walls.

These walls were used to mark out the field, and also as property markers.

Help diagnosing ballast problem

Let me start by saying I do not like laying ballast. That being said model trains is my hobby and I am trying to get ready for a layout tour in late Oct.

I have watched videos and read a number of articles describing laying ballast. I am using the method I found here on Model Railroad Hobbyist, I believe written by Charlie Comstock.

New Throwbar for Central Valley Turnouts

I started on a new industrial spur this week.  I chose a Central Valley (CVT) turnout kit, partly for the challenge of trying a new throwbar idea.  This is HO scale.
