La Grange gets some track & Tortilla Flats gets surveyed

GS&M crews march on...

After the 1st set of track goes into place a Trio of C-630 pulls a tank train from staging up and out of the main Helix.

You can see how the main works it way out of the Helix and into La Grange.  The Alcos are on what will become the A/D tracks for La Grange.

Frugal Modeler's Journal - N Scale Project Storage for a buck!

Like many, many of you, I struggle (and generally fail) at keeping a clean organized workbench.  As I have started and worked through projects over the years, I've tried just about everything to keep my projects organized - butter tubs, old greeting card boxes, even discarded instrument packages from scientific instruments!  See, I like to keep all the detail parts, replacement couplers, etc together in a single place while I work on a model, so I can just pick it up, work on it, and then set it down without spending time trying to hunt everything out of my on bench storage

La Grange & The Helix on the GS&M

Using a section of oak to test bend the plywood that will lead out of the main Helix and into La Grange.  You can see Gila Grains from this angle.

Photo of the Helix exit.  You can see I have not fully finished the front face of the bench work yet at the end of the 1x6.  Gila Springs in on the back wall to the right.

Making dents in freight cars

I know this most likely been here before but, what methods are being currently used to simulate dents in gondolas, hoppers, box cars, etc?

Many thanks

Manual Point Control

G`day Folks

I have been working on a mechanical point system to go with my railway.

Solved my storage problem –

I live in a two bedroom townhouse – each bedroom has its own bathroom.  My layout is in the spare bedroom and having its own bathroom has been convenient for cleaning stuff, etc.

The Upper Spine

The lower deck is built of what I call the backbone of the layout 3 4x1 with plywood sandwiched in between them.  The Backbone is the anchor for the peninsula.  The spine sits directly above the Backbone.

The Upper spine is a 6" x 10' long section of wood that sits on top of Oak Uprights.  Every thing is tied together with Metal - T that will have lag bolts running thought the web of the spine.

The Helix

The Helix...

Every 180' each set of tracks gets a feeder.  I used short drywall screws to hold the sections together.  No Glue.
