A Solution to a Problem Mk2 : Elephant Tracks
Dear MRH team,
Looking for a DCC-based Solution to the following Problem...
- a larger layout, club-based, that is regularly used for public shows.
- already DCC-operated (NCE, with primary radio/fallback tethered throttle buss, if that matters)
- there is a double-ended staging yard at the rear, feeding both ends of the "modelled scene"/mainline
- there are 5 "parallel tracks" in the yard
Making pictures and text larger
In the forum postings to Charlie's Up the Creek - Upper Bear Creek Gets Water Al (tsby_fan) asked if there was a way to enlarge the pictures. Joes suggested using the embedded version, but I have never tried this version. I have always read the magazine in the online version and here is something I came across but, I'm sure I am not the first.
Roadbed
I've put down roadbed for the mainline. I'm using Woodland Scenics' N-scale roadbed [though I guess this is one of the rare cases where "N-gauge" is the proper term], using Liquid Nails for Projects to adhere it. The shot glass in the photo below has finally proven useful as a roller to make sure the roadbed is pressed down smoothly. The sectional track is there just as a template for curves (though I've tried to put in easements as well).
Resaerching the forum
Hello!
I recently started a blog/website (http://h0traindepot.com/) dedicated to H0 railroad modeling. I'm preparing a post about various discussion forums about H0 train models. I decided, that the best route would be to actually register and say "hello" on each forum I plan to write about - I guess it's obvious, but still I'm outlining my motivations.
So - HELLO, I'm new here :)
That said, I'm curious...
Steps for Structure Building
Being a programmer I learned long ago that tasks must be done step by step, in order. So I am going to attempt to share my experiences completing a fairly good sized area of my layout that parallels the mainline track. There will be a number of structures on both sides of the street,
Are there any alternatives to MEK based solvent for gluing styrene?
Are there any alternatives to MEK based solvents for gluing styrene?
The small bottles of styrene solvent sold in my LHS don't last very long and it become expensives when you are constructing large buildings.
Does anyone know if there are solvents that you can purchase much more cheaply in bulk (by the pint / litre) from one of the big box stores that can be used to weld styrene? Would acetone work, or is there some paint thinner that contains a similar solvent to MEK that goes by another name (e.g. Xylene, Toluene, Lacquer Thinner)?
