Suggested pixels/inch for custom decals?

Does anyone have a recommended pixels per inch count for doing custom decals? I'm currently set at 2500 px/inch. Haven't printed yet, and want to know if I'm way over-shooting it with that number or not.

For further reference, current plan is for HO scale decals. I'd take any other suggestions that come to mind as well. Not necessarily planning to print them myself.

Gapping hand laid turnout frogs

I have recently completed track work on my small (2'× 9') switching layout. All track is hand laid and I used fast tracks jigs for the turnouts. My question is this, do I really need to gap both sides of the frog? On of the things that always drew me in with hand laid turnouts was the point rails flowing all the way to the frogs. I just think it looks better that way. Is there a real world practical reason to gap the point rails before the frog?

New Workshop Ideas & Suggestions wanted

So my wife and I recently purchased a new home, and with this new house comes a new opportunity to redo a work bench for modeling. I model in large scale (1/29) so things take up a bunch of space, so I want to make this new work bench useful.

What are some must haves that I'm missing? I do a lot of scratch building and Kit bashing.

Here's what I can think of.
1. Outlets. The more the better. I'm thinking of adding a dedicated 30 amp fuse just for workshop stuff.
2. Room to place power tools (mini table as, drill press etc).
3 paint storage racks

Need recommendations on motor tool

Back in 1977 I was visiting my grandparents in Denver (grandad worked for the D&RGW) and attended the NMRA convention held there that year. I paid a visit to Caboose Hobbies and bought a handheld motor tool, the Handee Grinder. I remember trying to decide between a Dremel and a Handee, but I can't remember why I chose the Handee.

Your suggestions please - making a brick road in HO scale

Good evening all,

I have several areas that need to have brick roads / parking lots on my HO scale layout. I have some of the Plasti-struct brick sheets. Before I use those, I thought I'd see if anyone had other suggestions on modeling brick for streets.

Thanks in advance!

New age for permanent magnet to uncouple Kadee and clone couplers

These are like seasons, many topic speak about uncoupler and how to do it; I already published some months ago a topic after this clever use of permanent magnet;

Because of the coming back of such discussion I bring back the topic.

A few years  ago, a good friend of me, was in the way to install permanent  Kadee Magnet uncoupler on his layout.

He made a mistake when putting one in place, but this mistake was in fact like an "EUREKA".

Electrical work for the swing gate track

I got most my wiring done on the swing gate so when it is open there isn’t any power on the gate and 18 inch’s of dead tracks off the gate. I wasn’t thinking about how many switch’s I required to do this when I was in the planning stages. As a result I currently only turn off the power on one end of the approach to the gate. I will purchase a couple more switches in the near future and complete the wiring.

How to make white lettering decals on transparent waterslip paper?

I understand how to make color decals on transparent waterslip pager but can't find how to make white decals.

I have an inkjet printer but it can't use white ink.  What are my options?
