If you need a size grab iron that you don't have, particularly a straight one, here's an easy way to make them.

HO Paving Tool - 3D Print Files

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3174846 This is a paving tool I designed in Sketchup to provide an easy way to maintain a consistent width and thickness of drywall compound “paving”. I’ve sized this to match the height of code 100 rail. While very handy, I must warn you it took 4 hours to print on my Printrbot Play. Let me know what you think, either here, or you can email me at mdlafond@yahoo.com.

Interesting Paint / Primer discussion

A gentleman with a lot of experience in painting models is building a lifting bridge, and painting it via airbrush.

I thought some of his observations about the painting of the plastic model were quite interesting.

Getting glue off of styrene

I was given a sheet of styrene (.080) about 4' x6'. This is a great score but.....it has had some sort of contact cement applied to one side. I find that rubbing with my fingers removes the glue but this would be incredibly time consuming to clean up using only fingers. I tried a corner with spraying WD-40 (recommended by a friend) which work fairly well at removing the glue but left a funky film on the styrene. Does anyone have a recommendation on how I might remove this glue?

Substitute for Floquil on wooden models?

Recently I exhausted my supply of Floquil boxcar red.  I tried using Scalecoat 1 on a wood model. Although Scalecoat 1 on brass models gives beautiful results, I am disappointed with the resultant finish when used on wood.  I won't use it on wood again.  Floquil gave gorgeous results on wood surfaces, even when brushed on, and I would like to continue duplicating such fine results.  Has anyone found a reasonable substitute for Floquil?

Athearn GP-9 bodies on a Proto 2000 Gp-9 chassis

Since I know mechanically the Athearn BB and proto 2000 are similar, my question is can bodies of the Athearn BB GP-9 fit on the Proto 2000 GP-7/9 chassis?? I'm asking because I have a couple of detailed and custom painted BB GP-9 bodies on unpowered chassis...and a few brand new Proto 2000 GP-7 and 9s.

Larger chopper

Is anyone aware of a larger type chopper. One that would be used for maybe up to 5"  multiple cuts in basswood ?

Always seem to run out of setting on my chopper for O scale.  Thanks

Optivisor

Hi everyone,

The #1 item on my wish list right now is an Optivisor.

On their website, they list an Optivisor and an Optivisor LX I couldn't really see any difference!

Any one have either one?

Also, I'm wondering if the lighted Optivisor provides decent lighting?
