The Herrin Micro Layout

Welcome to my latest micro model railroad project, the Herrin Micro. This HO scale layout is constructed on a foamcore baseboard box with staging tracks for the industry on the left, and two staging tracks to the right. Total layout size including baseboard and staging tracks is 523 square inches. The scene is based on the old Maytag plant in Herrin, Illinois.

L-Gauge Project

I've decided to once again visit the MRH forums! Been a while since I've been here, I always remember the community being wonderful, and the posts interesting- but life has had other plans for me, and unfortunately it's taken me away from the trains for a while. I've been trying to get them back into my life, but it's not easy at the moment.

That said, I've been working on a project!
(it involves LEGO, read on below for more on that)

A confluence of influences, how my freelance layout is finally coming into focus

This will probably be sort of a long and rambling blog entry but it's something I consider quite often and in light of some  random but sort of serendipitous coincidences it's been percolating in my mind lately. I've really been thinking a lot about the various influences on my freelance modeling and the sometimes simple events that sparked and shaped them. The most obvious influence on my work, I think, is John Allen.

SMA38 Clarification of Servo Timing: A short Technical Correction to Almost Everything

I would like to share some info that I just became aware of, specifically regarding servo timing.
This is not quite my "normal" blog article, but I think it affects too many of my projects, so I include it here.

Pandemic project finally finished - should have done this long ago

Sharing a pandemic project that we should have done 12 years ago when we bought the house, but then again the kids were still in school, then there was college tuition for 2, then a wedding but now the last two have left the "nest" and funding became available.

Did you get your M420

One of the most anticipated release of a locomotive for me was the RAPIDO M420 as delivered to CN. I don’t think I ever saw a 2500 series only 3500s when the got sold of by CN and started showing up on short lines. I don’t model CN and wasn’t going to wait and see if the 3500s get released. So I bought one to run on the layout. I had built a resin kit quite a number of years ago as HBRY 3548 and it still runs well.  Maybe time to put them in a consist. Thumbs up to RAPIDO .
